Cheap PC for Study purposes.

Get an Intel E3200. Seriously it's fast enough - it's way faster than an E2160 and I would consider that fast enough. And it's seriously cheap. And ... wait for it...

It has Intel VT! Which means XP mode works in Windows 7 - Intel finally put this back. So it's great for virtualizing OS'es which is cool for trying out new stuff

Not only is the AMD better because it does not come from an evil company like intel, the four cores makes it a considerably faster processor in modern multithreaded applications. It also overclocks incredibly well and the platforms it runs on are a lot better that those you get for intel options. Also keep in mind that AMD uses integrated memory controllers - something you only find on the latest intel i7 and i5 CPUs.
