Cheap So You Start Servers

Hi guys

these prices looks really tempting. please confirm a few things :

  • i notice bandwidth is stated as 250Mbps - is there a monthly cap applied to how much can be transferred to/from the machine?
  • Is the server physically in one location only, or is there cloud redundancy?
  • i assume any hardware failures is handled by them?

if redundancy is not offered, i assume there is always the option to purchase two in separate locations and do a backup/sync between them.

1.) Unmetered bandwidth, but limited to 250mbps in terms of throughput.
2.) It's a PHYSICAL server so 1 location, but you may end up in 1 of 3 locations in FR or 1 in Canada (depending on where it gets deployed).
3.) Yes SYS (OVH) handle hardware faults.

If you need redundancy then you'll need to take another dedicated server in a diff location. You're in charge of your own backups - so how you do it is up to you.

thank you!

prices seems absurdly cheap - unless it is still a virtual server allowing them to sell contention. even over 5 years its R27k for a server including bandwidth and power.

Cloud is really taking over :o

I'm not sure why you keep talking cloud...

This isn't a VPS or cloud solution. It's a PHYSICAL piece of tin e.g. a PHYSICAL server.

The price is cheap as:

a) OVH are the biggest provider in France / possibly Europe and one of the biggest in the world. They have economies of scale that most others simply don't have access to.

b) Power is cheap in France - due to the abundance of Nuclear which carries a heavy state subsidy.

server hosting my data somewhere that is not on my premises, accessible via internet = cloud. yes i know - not completely accurate but have to make a distinction between onsite and offsite.

ok makes sense.

i assume upgrading a long term contract goes the same way a normal physical upgrade goes.

Let's agree to disagree.

Have you looked at Hetzner server auctions?
