I see Takealot selling Windows 10 and 11 fairly cheap (under R800):

The reviews are generally pretty positive, and of course it's Takealot, not the dodgy corner store.

Any comments or experiences?

Hopefully Win11 will work on my son's AMD Ryzen 3 2200G and Asus PRIME A320M-K motherboard he bought (unused) off a friend).

Nope

AMD processors that have been admitted using Windows 11 are those that go from 2nd gen Ryzen (Zen+) beyond, and your CPU is Raven Ridge (Zen, 1st Gen), but not Picasso (Zen+, 2nd Gen).

The reason mainly is the absence of Mode Based Execution Control (MBEC) which improves the isolation of kernel memory, since AMD didn't include this technology in their first gen processors, but they did in Zen+. That simple detail is the one that excludes 1st generation from the Windows 11 compatibility list. There's also the optimisation in the cores to reduce latency in the L3 cache (improvement in IPC), along other optimisations regarding memory management. It's not about smoothness, but security.

PM me if you are looking for cheap Microsoft Products...

The Windows 10 works just fine, and the Ryzen is not supported by Win11. Bah. I might ask my son if he wants to upgrade to Win 11 anyway, it's easy to do.

Does it have Windows currently installed?

If so, just check compatibility with the Windows 11 assistant, it will confirm.

Most older PCs don't have TPM 2.0 and therefore can't upgrade. Check out the following link.

You can create a windows 11 Installation disk with Rufus and select the options to remove those restrictions

There is a risk of having problems later, but The Zen+ architecture is likely still new enough.

How long will Windows 10 still be supported?

Thinking of upgrading to 10 from 7 because my laptop is bloated and runs slow.
I would definitely upgrade to Windows 10, it will still be around for years to come. Windows 8.1 is still supported. Let me know, I can assist you with a license key.

Are you upgrading (not new installation?

If so, you shouldn't have any problems.

I use Outlook, so I can't say for sure.

Have a quick look on Google.

Normally when you upgrade, it tells you what is or isn't compatible with WIndows 10.

Just a quick question, is Windows 7 activated and fully updated?

You can buy them for R99 from resellers, you can find plenty of them known and reputable on the Carbonite Classifieds forums, probably here too.

Anyway, I thought the 1k was daylight robbery, but look at this schite..

I wonder how many copies they've sold at those prices.
