8ta has the best prices at the moment (R150 / 3GB or R199pm / 10GB for 24 months)

I am considering the 10GB for 24 months @ R199pm, but, according to 8ta's coverage map, I am right on the edge of 3G coverage (i.e. the coverage line runs diagonally through the property boundaries).

In your (or anyone who cares to contribute's) experience, is the coverage map pessimistic or is there a real chance that I may not get decent reception? I am currently located near central Stellenbosch and am on CellC with okay reception.

Thanks!

You could get a directional antenna to boost the signal. Assuming your modem can take it.

I have the Huawei E1752 (original white CellC branded) modem, so I could, but I do not want to if it can be avoided, as the directional antennas I have seen are quite expensive relative to the amount of money I would save changing to 8ta as opposed to sticking with CellC. I am a postgrad student, so money is definitely an issue :)

Buy 8ta prepaid SIM convert it to non-roaming and test it, the best advice. I am not in official CellC coverage, but it works with average speeds, up to 1.5 Mbps.

Thanks. What does one need to purchase a prepaid SIM these days? Original ID and a proof of residence?

Mtn's R299 uncapped lite seems to be a good package.
