I HATE old pc's no matter how refurbished.
slow, mobo on its last legs which results in blue screens. no replacement parts like AT psu's, simms and dimms unattainable
not to mention gfx cards, agp and the like stop working and fans packing up.
I feel sorry for the techies trying to support these pc's

Now, are Micro$oft selling cheap refurbished widows XP on these boxes or standard full price XP which costs more than the actual hardware on which its running?
i'd love to see some costs

Well this is gonna hurt the micro businessmen that supply and provide these to the consumer. The biggest cost is XP, yea gonna see how Microbucks sells XP to these guys and at what cost. High quality XP...

Linux has been a option, and many are changing due to XP priceing, specially last couple weeks got hellava expensive..

I buy/get old PC all the time and "refurbish" them and they are never dodgy. This year I even had a P2 266Mhz and with a little effort I got XP XP3 to fly on it. All my old PC run BOINC/WorldCommunityGrid to work on cancer and aids research. This is for atleast a month at 100% load 24/7. Rock solid.

Sure I come accross dead things like HDDs, mobos and CPUs but I have never had ones that were temperamental.

The people that buy these usually have very limited income and want to have their first home PC. I have not had a single come back.

I think this is a great program and if they were to use Linux they could bring down the costs even more and use older hardware such as P2s and K6es.

Well LINUX is a great option and even Windows98 for these old junkers. A lot of people will purchase an extra PC for a single purpose - Web / Email or even run some old software...

... or just for MAME GAMES !!!!

Yes but the under prev. children love them more than the ones made from stick, bricks and yesterdays pap.

haha this has been around for years, and its not target for me and u, it's targeted at rural dwelling people. Those that barely have a TV. I still think companies like sylvara over charge slightly, and this also poses another problem..the dell's they sell contain proprietary hardware with odd sockets from the power supplies and so forth, rendering it pretty imposible for these okes to fix their pc's themselves.
The true supplier of the "have not's" though are the little computer shops in PTA and JHB cbd that sell's grey imported hardware from china/korea etc for dirt cheap. (maybe even stolen PC's)
