Hi, I had the chance to get my drivers 2 years ago, but I bailed out because I wasn't confident.
Obviously I can't leave it because I'll have more opportunities with a driver's license.

Last time i was driving in a car, I couldn't get the hang of stopping-smoothly smoothly and quickly enough, also I have performance anxiety(not sexually related) so I worry about whether I'll fail on the roads.

To cut the story short, will I have to fork out thousands for the whole driver license training and booking, or can I do something like rent a car for a day, and practice in it(with someone in it of course), that way I can spend a lot of time until I get confident?

Thanks

To summarize it, I'm looking for ways to pay less ( even though I can spend R5-R10K) and for a way to get more comfortable driving that it becomes second nature.

If I was you - get your learners if you don't have it already.
Then get someone who is patient to help you get confident behind the wheel.
Once you're confident - go to a repeatable driving school.

Yes.
Such a pain to get through this. I can only imagine how much harder/costly it would be if you don't have or know someone with a car to practice with.

I agree with Tander as that's exactly how I went about it many many years ago

I'm sure repeat is the last thing OP wants to do

I don't think you're allowed to hire a car with only a learners, so that's not going to work too well.

In that case I'll look at paying someone close to me cheaper but for more lessons, and do a few lessons with the instructor.
At least I'll be able to pay for it so I should be glad about that.

Why not take a friend or family member with - and not pay anything?
Then only pay the driving school?

Family have automatic cars, I'll see if I can use a work-colleague's car, and pay less rather.

Automatic is fine. You just need to be condifent behind the wheel. The school will teach you to actually drive?

Good luck and remember - just take it easy, don't rush it. Also ignore anyone that hoots at you. Just have a big "L" sticker on the rear window.

i suggest you hire a car, learner drivers put strain on clutche and breaks and will damage your friends and familys car

1. Get your learners.
2. Drive as much as possible. Everyday if you can.

His family cars are all automatic so no clutch issues. Putting strain on brakes??
Please...lol

Hire companies will not hire cars to learner dirvers. And if someone else hires it for you, and you have an accident, you will not be covered by insurance.
