Cheapest Android smartphone: Vodacom

WoW, R1400 for a smartphone.
Extremely impressive indeed.
I want to know when, and I want the official proper feature list please.

Still a good phone at that price. Custom roms is what makes these phones cool, and at that price more people will get into Android.

24 Home Screens (8 across and 3 up or down), why would you need so many? I can't even use the 3 I have on my Samsung Monte. Seems like a nice phone though... I want one

I can only imagine the reason for that being it having such a small screen compared to most other android phones, so to make up for the lack of space on each screen they just added more... theres probably other restrictions like only one widget per screen

Time for us devs to start pumping out the South African Android apps me thinks. We finally might have enough users to make it worth the while.

Some already are.

But I think the Oracle lawsuit against Google will stop a lot of small devs from entering the market.

On a side note, Java ME is still a great platform to code for. And it can run on multiple phones (including Android).

Is it illegal to load for example this vodafone with a custom ROM. You're not putting something illegal on since the ROM you put on is free + You bought the phone so it is technically yours to do as you please? It will proberly void the warrenty but its not illegal.

^ guess you just answered your own question!

Anyway I'd rather take the X10 mini for R99p/m on contract at vodacom. That's also damn cheap and it's quite a similar phone but with much better specs (faster CPU, better camera, capacitive screen)
