My daughter wants to purchase a new Flat Screen TV in the next week or so and we looking for the best deal in town. Game has one 19" for R1199.00 which seems cheap enough, if they have stock as usual. We looked at Makro and Hi Fi Corp and that seems the cheapest so far. What should she get as there are HD and HD Ready and some other ones I don't understand? Is LCD better then Plasma or LED?

Is there a better deal somewhere?

*I think I saw a thread on MyBB about TV's but did not find it*

I reported it and asked for it to be moved so hopefully the mods can help out.

Also what does your daughter want to use it for? i.e to connect to a PC or to use to connect to a DSTV decoder to watch TV, also what type of connection, HDMI, RCA, coaxial etc?

that one for R1199 is most surely a monitor only with no tuner. i.e a pc monitor.

You can get 19" tv's for around that price. Monitors in that size can be around 800 bucks if I am not mistaken.

Wouldn't settle for less than 32" for wide screen (seems out of budget). Get a normal box TV with budget around R1,500, offers better bang and much better quality and size for TV than a 19" LCD.

she just wants it as a normal tv. She does not have any pay channels as yet.

yeah come to think of it that is damn small. I better warn her before she makes a mistake.

thanks guys.

I think the whole separate entrance where she is staying is less then 2,5m. Maybe she should just watch the neighbours tv from her place that would save her a fortune.

I tried to check on-line and am not entirely sure if its still the same price but i saw Aim 19 inch Lcd TV for around R899 at the Pick N Pay Hyperama at Ottery.
Not sure if its still that price though.

Damn that is cheap but do you think a 19" is too small to watch anything decent on it?

Both are double the budget the OP suggested. If budget is R3k then by all means go for 32" LCD...

There should also be some branded FHD 32" LCDs around 1 year old second-hand for R2 - R2.5k. Branded LCD offers many advantages, I suggest Samsung 5 Series LCD/4 Series plasma as their USB ports play 99% of media via flash drive/external HDD. A Samsung 32" 5 Series (C or D model) would be ideal IMO.
