Cheapest local only that allows Saix news server?

I only have IS local and the news servers go full tilt for me all the time ....... It's only only on stuff older than a week or two that it gives hassles.
 
I called Axxess, no Local SAIX anymore. So I'll save and use TI Local 30GB.
Tried my axxess account DL 0 connected to Telkom full speed, changed Newsreader to IS but no DL 5 connections zero 30 minutes later still.
Go back to Telkom full speed from SAIX with 2 connections
 
Well apparently it's (IS) only bad at the end of the month but I haven't tried yet.
 
AFAIK you can get access to the SAIX NS using a Screamer account and they have the cheapest bandwidth with their uncapped accounts. I use them and the speed is flying.
 
Are you supposed to have access or is it just a loop hole type thing? I don't wan't to pay Screamer and then find it doesn't work.
 
Yeah, I also find it interesting and was going to ask why Adventurer said "as far as I know" and then said he is using Screamer himself. Either it works or it doesn't.
 
Plus I just realised, Screamer is not local only therefore it's much more expensive (twice that of local only), doy!

I think I still have some megs left on my prepaid local only Axxess so I'll see how the IS server works with that before shelling out. There's also Webafrica at R19 a gig, but then that is much more costly again, their news server is quite good though.

Yeah but it is R399 for an uncapped service... which is great if it works.

Another issue I have is having to pay R399 for this service on my 384k line and someone else will also only have to pay R399 for the same service on their 4MB line.... I am not willing to subsidise someone else's use.

You won't be subsidising their use, they will only get 384k on a 4mb line with that account.
 
Ahh, you are right. My mistake. I misinterpreted this :

"Maximum line speed is dependent on the speed at which your ADSL line is provisioned at with Telkom"

:D If that was true, the South African internet would have been a better place. :D
 
Telkom have told me that you can take out an account and cancel before the month end. Not sure how this will work out exactly. It seems like they only take debit orders as well from their application form.

Anyone want to be the guinea pig?
