Hi

Where can I get the cheapest PS3 in SA? I see Kalahari have the 80gb + Fifa bundle for R4999. Anyone know of better deals?

I already own an xbox360, so no console wars please :) I'm buying the PS3 for Blu Ray as apparently it's still the best player out there?

You've got that right. Check how many so called "advanced" free standing Blu Ray players also do DTS Master (8 channel) sound and are HDMI1.3a capable and then compare the prices

Best is to shop around, call.

CNA
Toyzone
Makro Silverlakes
Game
Toy's ur Us
BT games
Incredible corruption.

I bought mine from CNA with two controllers and GT5
Toyzone had the best priced 160G during Christmas

Thanks, have had a quick look around and so far it seems Kalahari have the best deal.

if you have the time to wait, check on bid or buy on crazy wed actions, i got mine, brand new with a 80g hdd for 3,850 (thats incl shipping) with a 1yr warranty

I bought my PS3 40GB for R3899 at Toyzone. That was the best price I could find at the time and there is no *real* difference between the 40GB and 80GB model apart from the h/drive size (at least according to all the documentation I read).

when i picked up my copy of Killzone 2 on the 27feb at Look and Listen in Canal walk ,i chatted with the sales guy and he told me that they have been informed that the ps3 price will come down in April to R2999.00 apparently it was in last months edition of NAG aswell ,so i would hold out for a month and score R1k :D

I got my unit (80GB) from CNA with 300 movie and Blu Ray remote for R4999.00 Canal Walk had stock.

something which i think is still a pretty good deal is i-talk cellular's deal: 80gig ps3 + samsung phone on mtn talk 100 for about 270 a month or something like that. Ads not on the website anymore but saw it in the paper yesterday

Dude are you sure he said R2999.00?
That seems unbelievable, I would suspect R3999.00 yes.
If its R2999.00 then I'd buy one for my brother, hahaha!

if this is true, there will be a lot of happy folks, but also some very, very unhappy guys around

dude im not kidding you, give Look and listen a call there is a chick a dude working in their gaming division they both told me the same thing, cause i clearly remember the sales guys still telling me that now the x360 is in trouble cause the x360 cost R2699.00 and people will def buy the ps3 over the x360 with the price of the ps3 at R2999.00

It would be very nice, but highly unlikely.

A PS3, that includes a blue-ray drive, could not retail for that amount, unless manufactured on a 45/45 die process.

They currently on a 65/65 one.

Most likely read a few reports online, and are taking it as gospel.

Much likelier is a price reduction to R3999, which is also unlikely.

Thanks for the feedback, but R2999 for a PS3? Highly unlikely, in fact, near impossible. I wouldn't listen to a word those salesmen say, most salesmen in the audio/video/electronic industry are clueless. Just walk into GAME's tv/hifi section, or audio vision and start asking about 720p,1080p,1080i, absolutely cluess. No offense to the good salesmen of course, they're just few and far between.

Will check CNA this evening.

Oh, btw, reason for eventually buying a PS3 (I've been holding out for ages), I found out that Amazon now ship to SA and I just bought Planet Earth on BluRay for R350! It retails for R1000 in SA.

The .com store or the co.uk one?

R 350, that is amzing. I will order mine soon then.

Update: Picked up a PS3 80gb at CNA for R4999. Use your Edgars Cash card and you get R350 back in Edgars vouchers (as good as cash if you shop at Edgars), but here's the real kicker! Wait for 'double points' day and you get R700 back!!
(I was too impatient :)

Even better, buy the PS3/300 Blu Ray Movie pack and you get 300 on Blu Ray, plus (this was about the best thing), a free Blu Ray remote!! It isn't advertised on the box anywhere, and none of the salesmen new this either (typical).

So take R5000 less R700 less R300 less R350 =

R3650 for a PS3 80gb.
