Cheating in single player games

I don't cheat when playing the campaign for the first time, it takes away from the overall experience. After and for other types of games, mods more so than cheats to enhance gameplay and features.

Recently discovered the Overload Mod in SimplePlanes which enables .xml level editing in game, soooo many things I can do now, add proper flaps, resize hidden objects from downloaded planes, set engine power to x50 000hp etc.

So if the devs put "cheats" in the game, is it cheating to use them?

So for instance, on THPS 1 + 2 there are game mods (cheats) accessible via the games menu that make the game easier and still unlock some chievos while they are enabled.

PS: asking for a friend

I never cheat when playing a game through, I did on occasion when younger as part of exploring game mechanics and experimenting with games to alter playstyle. Only game I recall cheating more on was Diablo II LOD in terms of playing with items I did not find myself as some where so hard to find and I wanted to try out builds reliant on specific items. Later on I switched to self found only gameplay for a long period and found it more rewarding so stopped after that.

I'd clocked Diablo 2, and found a cheat that let you drop those items you almost never see. It was fun replaying it and one-shotting enemies.
Then the no-clip cheat for the FPS games like Wolfenstein etc. Other than that, never cheated and simply played through. The important part here was that I'd completed the games normally before having fun.

Used to cheat in certain games like Battle for Middle Earth 2, would remove the pop cap so I could vs 4/5 hard bots, or if you get stuck at a certain boss and can't pass anymore, but still want to experience the rest of the game (can't admit to the latter though, can just think of a case like that). Skyrim console is basically required, teleporting after the x'th playthrough, getting mods to work, etc.

I have no issues in cheating in SP, the only experience you impact is your own, and usually you end up making the game boring for yourself. Multiplayer is a different matter as you impact other user's experiences, versing an aim hacker is not fun.

The last game I "cheated" in was Skyrim, infinite gold/resources.
On my first play through

I had a blast and never once cried/cut myself in shame

Remember downloading this guy from old nag CD's, only really cheated in Age of Empires with those cars that shot everything up

Age of empires II had this sports car cheat code that gave you an invulnerable car with insane damage. Was surprisingly fun to clear a map of AI's with it just for the kicks.

I generally don't cheat as it spoils the game. Had a save issue in a game recently where I lost a few days worth of progress. In this case I just spawned in the items I lost as I had technically already acquired them legitimately.
