Check your vehicle licence disc validity

I haven't received a reminder in 3 years.

I used to get them, but no more ...

I have received reminders for many years now regularly. And renewed on time.
They stopped at least 6 months ago - when one car expired. Realised it when the other car came up for renewal and we thought to check both. They are making a killing of penalties.

I am trying to renew my licence via the City of Cape Town's electronic process. Started the process end of December (last month) as it expires end of this month (January). They email me back to say, "We have picked up that your address records differ from our records.
We will need to update your records before we can allocate a payment advice."

So the proof of address I send them is my rates statement sent to me from them. 18 days have passed and I've heard nothing despite trying to follow up again 9 days ago. Going to have to call them today to find out what the fudge is throwing a spanner in the works!

I had a similar problem but for December. Ended up rather just going in. Took me 2 hours but at least I got it.

Always had reminders sent, looks like a fine though, maybe that's why some of you guys never got it ;).
This year my one car expires end of this month and no reminder going to have to go to the licensing department for the first time in 7 years :(

I can't remember when last I received a reminder.
What works for me is an annual recurring calendar entry that reminds me when time. Take the disc off the car, pop into the local PO, sorted...

I always thought that the PO could only renew it if you had the reminder letter with you. I didn't get my reminder and only realised my disk had expired when the car was packed for our weekend away. Panic.
Shot down to the PO to see if they could help me and yes. I just had to fill in some white form and it was sorted.

But before that I went to the licensing dept and guess what? Offline!!!

The last time I got any reminder was in the 90's. I just take my actual disc in for the Vin etc numbers & never had to fill out any special forms.

You don't need a reminder for the post office, but you do need your vehicle information. The easiest way to fill in the form is to take your existing disc off, and copy the info from there.
