checking data usage

I've loaded a 500Mb data bundle on my contract phone - is there anyway I can check my data usage on or offline?

Nokia phones has a data usage in Call Timers menu - I reset my data usage at the beginning of the month to check my usage.
You can also check Vodacom4me website to check your usage if you are on Vodacom (not sure if MTN has, but would assume they should..)

I using a Samsung HD Omnia i8910 as a modem on a contract plus I added a 500Mb data bundle - not actually browsing the internet on a cell phone. I still prefer to browse the internet on a large LCD screen.

MTN has MTN Active, but only for contract subscribers, AFAIK.

When I was with MTN the Data Counter sometimes would not update for up to 7 days. This gives you "more" data for the month. Then you get a roll over that you don't actually have and get billed later for Out Of Bundle.
Try Sainet. They are on MTN platform but their data counter is in real time. Plus they are much cheaper. R149 for 500MB's

its all over mybb, for instance you pay 80c inbundle for a 100mb data bundle,you will be charged 65c per mb after you used up all your 100mb,MTN is actually encouraging us to use more data OOB,i gues everybody was afraid to go OOB after the billing fiasco.

could this be because of the new consumer act coming in sometime this year? mtn wanting to ensure they don't get screwed by unhappy customers?

Is there something I don't get here? Why not check the remaining data, won't that insight you on the left data ~ data usage? *141*1*3#, will show you remaining, from that I presume you'd calculate how much has been used?

Correct, if you are on Prepaid. *162 is contract. Or MTNActive and your Name and Password. Unfortunately this has not worked correctly since April last year. You must monitor your own data usage. If you go over, you in big k@kka.
