Good day.

My gear knob of my chevrolet sonic (manual transmission) is disintegrating and I want to replace only the head. I contacted the agents and they say the whole gear assembly/unit needs to be replaced, they can’t just replace the knob/head on it’s own. This will cost me R5000 which I think is excessive. I just want to know if it is possible to replace the knob/head only and how do I do it? And where is the best place to buy the head/knob?

Thanks in advance

Get one one of those aftermarket knobs from Autostyle or similar shops. It's usually as easy as unscrewing the old one and screwing on the new one. Some little persuasion will be needed if glued but nothing you can't figure out.

Also a option would be to go to a motor scrap yard. I have used it very often and normally got right there.

does your gear knob have a button for going into reverse or is it a standard straight forward knob?

Thanks. It’s not the screw on type. I think it is glued on

I also need to replace my gear knob on my Sonic, please let us know how you go

could be like a E46, you need the strength of a Titan to pull it off, not screwed on, not glued, just a straight up pull

I cant tell you if that's the solution

Owner of a Sonic, send me your vin number i will see if i can get a diagram, the dealers (stealers) are among the dumbest parts creatures on planet earth

looks like the knob is removeable but only supplied as a unit (with shifter)

Is the Sonic like the older Opels with the shift stick? to get reserve you lift a section or the shifter?
