Chevy Sonic RS here in 2014

Good stuff.
I won't be purchasing one but little-by-little the car manufacturers are being forced to produce only forced induction vehicles due to higher efficiency, lower emissions and competition.
Normally aspirated motor vehicles are a slowly dying breed.

That is not a very nice looking car at all....

Plus its a Chev Sonic.. not massively appealing in the first place.

On second thoughts it really shouldn't be labelled a hot hatch.

Curb mass = 1275kg
Power = 103kW
Power/Mass = 80kW per ton

It's not really a hot hatch, but it is quicker than a normal hatch. Without forced induction that 1.4 develops 74kw which is not bad for a car that size, I have the same unit in my Corsa and its fairly nippy. With the turbo it does a lot more, however its still no GTI, ST or OPC. If GM can price it right this should make for a very nice Korean hatch.

Ok i guess, but it needs to be less than R220k to make sense.

R220k for THAT?

Crisis... I clearly don't pay enough attention to new vehicle prices, I would have guessed that pile of trash would be maybe R130 - R140k.

The standard Sonic is around the R180K mark ...

Not too long ago a 99kw Peugeot 206 GTI was considered a hot hatch and I believe that was even chubbier but was still a pretty good drive.

It's not terrible but you can certainly do better for the money.

Keep in mind that the Sonic competes with the Polo and Fiesta, so that is the price range you will find them in. I guess the RS model will probably go for R220k which is a lot but if you compare it to its rivals then its not that bad.

For R140k you might get a used Sonic or new Aveo which in turn competes with the Vivo and Figo.

The Sonic RS actually looks very good when you compare it to the liked of the Fiesta EcoBoost (90kw / 170nm) and Polo 1.6 (77kw / 155nm). It's got way better spec levels and power than those and will cost about the same. Looks wise it looks a lot more aggressive than the Polo but not as smooth as the Fiesta.

If you consider that its just the right mix of German engineering and Korean quality then its a pretty sweet car.

Edit : Considering the performance of that 1,4T in the heavier Astra I think the Sonic RS will out run other cars in its price range. The 1.6 Polo only does 0-100 in 12s where as the 1.4T in the Astra managed 9.5s, it will be even quicker in the Sonic.

Only seen 1 on the roads thus far. You can post that pic in rare cars thread.

It's a nice "warm" hatch. Judging by the performance of the Adam S using the same engine this is no hot hatch though.

Not the RS, but a funny review nonetheless.
