Tonight i had the most delicious supper in a long time.

1 onion fried
1 tub of chicken livers - seasoned with braai spices, salt and pepper
1 can of chakalaka

All cooked in a pot until livers cooked.

Side dish ... packet of Smash with butter and grated cheese.

My colleagues will be most envious tomorrow during break.

Must try the chakalaka next time wife makes livers. Now you just made me lus.

Talking about chakalaka, had the best ever in my life in Kahayletshia at Mamma Topies B&B a few weeks ago. Damn that women knows how to make chakalaka. Need to ask one of the ladies in the office who lives down the road from her to bring me some to try your recipe

okay that sounded great until you got to the smash part :(

I buy livers for my dog... he's a old timer so I spoil him a little

Chicken liver in brown onion soup (as a gravy) with a side of mash. Fantastic!

Work canteen has chicken livers & pap as a cheap meal option once a week. On that day they can keep the rest of their fancy food.

I Love chicken livers, my wife not so much so I only ever eat it when eating out.

The bad taste could be that green bile that's sometimes attached to the livers. You must cut it out first before cooking.

I mainly just do them with onions and Green Peppers.
Then eat them with toast :o

Will most definitely give your version a try.

It needs to be cleaned very nicely just like any "afval".

You will see some of them have some sort of greenish sack which I assume to be "bile"?
Just take them out of the tubs, put it in a sink with little warm water in it and clean them one by one. I remove all the tubes and so on
I clean it very nicely before I put it in a pan. I got a bad liver once from a take-away place and almost never ate livers again. That is why I clean them nicely.

ok my mum cooks them for me so im not sure if they do that ....so will definately tell her

and with toast is the best ....for breakfast lol

I love chicken livers! I either do them in a sort of red wine sauce, or in a super spicy tomato based sauce. On the Smash front I have to admit it's one of my guilty pleasures that I know I should really like, but made with cream and Philadelphia cheese and some chives chopped in it tastes so good.
