Things are a little more subtle and granular than a simple Either-Or. Not all laws are fascist, and the argument are not hard to grasp and not necessary to rehash here again. But seatbelt laws, no smoking laws, and compulsory education are fascist. No peeing in public is easily handled by indecency and sanitation laws, which are defensible.

Agree in Europe it's compulsory and the fees range in that price with the exchange. If not mistaken the child has to be in the car seat until they 4... do you think law enforcement will enforce it... no they won't.... I wasn't even stopped on the highway roadblock last year had family with me from abroad.. One of the kids sat on the mothers lap in the back seat. Corruption will happen and parents will gladly hand over R100 or R200 not to get a hefty fine.

Hehe. You're the one who brought God into it. And I know it was a figure of speec. My retort was a playon your theme. Besides, most of the 72 books are poetry, genealogy and narrative. Rules and Regs are a small part. Besides, it's an evolutionary thing. Progress requires less petty rules. Child seat laws keep people infantile.

all jokes aside, glad this is here now. i'm shocked at the number of people I see on the roads who have kids their laps. they say they love their kids, but they really don't try to prevent their deaths?

Oh sure. And how many people get transported on the back of open bakkies? It's an SA pastime it seems. And how many children cross busy streets with working pedestrian crossings and lights just meters away. Often I see mothers with their kids jaywalking through traffic which is easily going 60-80km/h and with a signaled crossing a hundred meters away or so. What are they teaching their kids?

And this is where the problem lies. Government does not address this. It can't. People don't get fined for this in SA and even if they do, that means the kid gets no dinner tonight because mommy had to pay the fine, if the fine was paid at all. It seems that typical and average South Africans have ZERO insight. The way kids and adults jaywalk. The way people drive.

Smokers affect other peoples health when smoking near them, they do not have the liberty to not endure the smoke (unless you invented some smoke filtering force field?) if there is no laws they can fall back upon.

The others I can concur with, as long as them not existing doesn't affect my wallet or health somehow.
