We have a thread for homemade sauces which is great, but don't appear to have a review thread for all of us chilli sauce lovers for the store bought varieties. So, as per a request from @Papa Smurf I'll share my thoughts on some as a start.
We have a monthly subscription box that usually comprises three sauces, this is for the delivery received today.
The Johnny Hexburg Jamaican Jerk was a very pleasant surprise. We were both expecting a decent flavour profile but no heat. What we got is fantastic flavour and a decent kick of heat! Heavy on cumin and garlic, very aromatic and has a sweet note to it. This should pair very well with chicken wings, and would likely make a fantastic chicken kebab marinade (will need to test!).
The Revo Espresso Chilli is a good hot sauce if you're looking for high heat, but neither of us could discern any coffee notes This will go well with any grease heavy foods. Pretty hot, so if you're after strong heat, you'll like this one.
The Crystal Hot Sauce is, quite frankly, drinkable. I actually prefer it to Tabasco. This will go on anything, and should About the same heat as Tabasco red, with a cleaner fresh flavour profile that's less vinegary than the Tabasco one.
Both the Johnny Hexburg and the Revo ones are from Capetonian companies, the Crystal is from Louisiana but there is now a local distributor for their range so it's readily available in most shops.
