China overtakes US on Internet usage

Yes, Reason: 4x Bigger population

Now if we were to multiply America's internet usage by 4 in proportion to China, America is still the highest on internet usage

Where do we sit on the list of countries? I'd imagine quite low down.

I vaguely hope China does become the new world power. All they want to do is sell their stuff to us.

Indeed. What this highlights is the growth and improved infrastructure in China and its possible impact to the economy.

Problem there is, where are we going to get our cheap stuff from?:p

The more China grows, the more expensive the labour, meaning more expensive goods...

The majority of the products you see infront of you, are made in China

I doubt that is all they want to do. ;)

Africa? If Africa can get their act together and organize decent infrastructure and governance. Africa could be the China of today if they weren't ruled by such numbnuts as the current pack of leaders.

Aah yeah we can become the cheap labour force of the world :D Then our time will also come and we'll become superpowers :) Hooray for SAfrican superpowerness.

I don't think China has any horrendous aspirations as far as the world is concerned. I suspect they've worked out that it's much easier to take over the world by selling it stuff than by force.

That is unlikely to happen. China got to where they are by exploiting their uneducated laborers . In Africa the uneducated laborers go on strikes and go-slows for almost any small reason.

China=Superpower '08

Superpower. You could call China the world's factory but not superpower.

Are they self-sufficient? Hell no. They rely entirely on foreign investment and outside exports.
Are they able to ensure enough resources? Heck no. Food prices are soaring
due to reductions in food production. The Yangtze River is drying up.
Their Co shares are also overrated. Apparently the shar price to company earning ratios are incredibly huge which is setting them up for a bubble collapse.
Militarily? Heck no. China has 0 carrier groups to 30 US ones.
No bluewater navy to transport their troops anywhere. Taiwan's navy
is larger.

They have the largest population until India overtakes them. They are advanced technologically and people live so densely its easy and cheap to
link them on the internet. Proportinately KOREA has the greatest
amount of internet users vs everyone else including USA.

Maybe so. But then show me one country that is. In fact, being by far the world's largest consumer while only having a very small percentage of its natural resources, the USA is, if anything, even less self sufficient.

Are they able to ensure enough resources? Heck no. Food prices are soaring due to reductions in food production.

Just yesterday Venezuela decided to divert a sizeable portion of their crude exports that normally go to the refineries in Louisiana to China instead. The Chinese have a very distinct advantage to the USA when shopping for natural resources. Unlike the Yanks, they'll buy from anybody with no strings attached. Zimbabwe being a case in point. Over the last decade they have bought up the linon's share of Africa's resource exports.

The Yangtze River is drying up.

And so is the Colorado. California needs far more water than it's got and has to rely on pumped water from behin the Rockies. Las Vegas is build in a desert with no natural resources. America relies on abundant cheap energy to make this possible.

Their Co shares are also overrated. Apparently the shar price to company earning ratios are incredibly huge which is setting them up for a bubble collapse.

Maybe. But how about the USA? The dollar is in free fall. The housing bubble has already burst. Their economy is already in recession. In contrast, China is still booming. While American oil consumption is now decreasing, the Chinese are still increasing theirs at an alarming rate. Their oil consumption for February was 18% up on last year's, for example.

Sure, I'll give you this one. The USA cannot be challenged by anybody militarily. It will take the Chinese at least another decade or two to catch up. Still, they are immune to invasion, being in possession of a large nuclear arsenal.

Back on topic: The USA is only number eight on the percentage on their population having internet access at 69 percent. The Netherlands leads the world at 88 percent. China is still far down the rankings on percentages even though they might lead in absolute numbers.
