China - Taiwan Developments

Just shows your tunnel vision to the subject at hand. If its adversarial to US interest that's your avenue.

Etu brutus, im not afraid to say i support the USA over China or whatever else you love so much. If its between western and eastern im choosing western every day of the week.

Please though, go live behind your communist curtain, then you don't have to see or hear from us again and likewise.

Do remember that Taiwan is also just part of China. It used to be the imperial army that after loosing to the communists, needed a place to hide out. Taiwan was a good space as it has lots of natural defences.

From 1895 till WW2 it belonged to Japan (Before this it belonged to China a bit, but from the 15th century till about the 19th it was pretty well..... DUTCH (Yet most trading with China took place at Dejima Island in Japan). After it and its people were handed over to Japanese rule by those whose ancestors now still reside on it. The Chinese took it back after WW2. The ROC which then ruled China after loosing the civil war to the communists, fled with 2 million soldiers to Taiwan (basically killing anyone from Taiwan that opposed them). With that they took most of China's treasures and gold reserves (many of these are still locked away in bunkers within the mountains of Taiwan). About 140 000 local Taiwanese people were killed during the Republic of China's invasion of Taiwan.

You have to consider modern day China.

Hong Kong used to funnel 90% of the money coming into China, today its barely over 10%. The government has also worked dramatically on poverty reduction, with extreme poverty eliminated. Generally in part China is on the UP still. Sure its very different, but what they have achieved is amazing.

Only the following countries recognize Taiwan
CountryYear Relations
Belize1989-present
Guatemala1933-present
Haiti1956-present
Holy See (Vatican City)1942-present
Honduras1985-present
Marshall Islands1998-present
Nauru1980-2002, 2005-present
Palau1999-present
Paraguay1957-present
Saint Kitts and Nevis1983-present
Saint Lucia1984-1997, 2007-present
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines1981-present
Tuvalu1979-present

They cant become a fully independent country as the UN Security council needs to approve them for this. Currently Russia and China has said firmly NO.

Amazing how scared China is of the US, if a member of Congress visiting Taiwan has sent them into such fury.
because its a Line crossing moment, kind of like Bugs Bunny and Serious Sam,
saying, I dare you to cross this line, I'm a Crossing, varmit....

until he leads him straight off the Diving board...

what were seeing is this play out in real life.
how far will the superpowers go, and it isn't into a comically small pool,
More like Nuclear winter, with a touch of Extinction.

What was China's red line?
That the US (not part of china) are not allowed to visit an independent nation (also not part of China)?

I though you were someone who likes freedom?
Taiwan isnt an independent nation. For this to happen they need approval from the UN Security council. Russia and China has both said NO.

Doesn't Eswatini also recognize Taiwan?

since when has that stopped a country? they can declare independence tomorrow and see what happens afterwards.
if that is the straw that starts a Nuclear exchange, and ww3 officially kicks off, so be it...

The Chinese are very prickly where their honor is concerned. It seems their MO is to keep anyone from legitimizing Taiwan's claim to sovereignty. They do the same with the Lama, put pressure on countries like SA not to give him any sort of platform.

Welcome Russia, with missiles in their buildings.

Mostly peaceful welcoming.
Like I said before here (the forum, not the thread), I know a few Ukrainians. And as I mentioned here (the forum, not the thread) I almost bought an apartment in Kyiv a couple of years ago (2018).

But, as was told to me then, what those people I know told me is inconsequential and I'm somehow a simping, virtue signaling fag for mentioning any of it.

So, **** me, I guess?

Is this like when Narrowband claims to know everything about Latvia and Latvians because his in-laws live there and he has visited a few times in the past?

Excuse me?

This is like I was told something by someone intimately involved in the situation, and merely relayed was I was told here.

Actually, it's not like that, it literally is that.

But you experts think anything anyone says must come with the same claim to expertness that you pretend.

Go figure. You can't just have an (admittedly secondhand) opinion on the interwebs, can you?

The experts (so called) bay for sauce.

Am not suggesting you are incorrect about the views of that person, just that the idea of characterizing the wishes of an entire nation based on what one person told you is silly. This is what Narrow does, he likes to gainsay anything he doesn't like that is posted because he has been to the country a few times and that apparently makes him an expert.

Yes, you may have spoken to a Ukrainian with some kind of Russian invasion fetish, does that have any effect on the views or wishes of everyone else living in Ukraine? Does the view of your one Ukrainian mean more than the countless others who are clearly intent on fighting the Russian invaders?

The China Taiwan relations have been rocky the past few years, Pelosi visiting Taiwan is an act of aggression
China doesn’t want war with the US, but scared, I doubt it

It clearly is anecdotal evidence that some Ukrainians (and if you look on twatter or whatever you'll find plenty) want to be part of Russia. That's all.

I'm not getting into a dick swinging contest over your value judgement of those that think that way. They're are welcome to their opinion.

It seems like no one wants to leave room for discussion, everyone is just trying to brute force their opinions on each other (from both sides.... mostly). Most posts are just people having a go at each other for being stupid/wrong/whatever or trying to GOTCHA each other.

did you magically miss the part where China stated outright this is their redline weeks ago already? (and repeatedly over the past few decades)

of course the US is the provocateur
Countries (and People) don't get to make unreasonable conditions on how others behave and then claim that they were provoked when their conditions are ignored.
