Chinese iPhone factory workers poisoned

Workers who say they were assembling Apple computers and iPhones in southern China have spent months in hospital after being exposed to a harmful chemical, an Australian media report said Tuesday.

Not nice at all ... what many others are forced to go through for us to enjoy the latest and greatest ...

To me, this type of thing is all on Apple. They need to ensure a better work environment in these factories.

Example quoted by Chinese PM Wen. Ipod sells for $199. The chinese factory earns $4

Safety inspections by clients are often a farce

I used to work in a factory Jeppestown that was sometimes "inspected" by consultants on behalf of clients as regards workers health, working conditions, training and safety. However, the factory frequently had magnesium fires, foundry workers got burnt on the job, there was a lack of protective gear etc. etc. It was easy to get the cooperation of the inspectors who were from the Arabian Emirates and probably not used to the South African freedom. Providing spending cash, prostitutes & entertainment did the trick! What ever happened to the inspectors that used to take care of safety on the job here in South Africa?
