Chinese Tablet Buyers Guide.

Chances are that a no name brand tablet magically got better overnight is slim. The Dixon name is used under license much like telefunken doesnt inspire confidence. It is over priced for what you get.Teclast m20 was R200 +- more, has 4 gig ram 128gig ROM and helio DECA core chipset. It pretty much runs circles around the Dixon in pretty much every aspect with the exception of the camera.

The complaint with regards to the t30 isnt lag, if you actually watched reviews games and GUI scrolling and general usage is butter smooth as well as PDFs. Scrolling in some thing like chrome for example, requires multiple scrolling gestures to scroll a page to the bottom. So might not even be hardware related, likely an issue related to android and chrome.

It is a fully laminated 2.5d screen, which should have better screen quality and response by default.
pftt doesn't inspire confidence......yeah whatever.

If you are wondering sawink makes Dixon tablets, basically a one size fits all outfit, so yeah you pretty much get what you pay for, considering the Dixon brand is only alive on paper.
Most brands are only alive on paper, I did order a tablet long ago from China, it did arrive eventually and it was better than most were at the time, until it broke and you had to pay to get it sorted out.
So if people are willing to take the risks than they can, if they aren't than they can look at home and get something that isn't badly priced for us.

With the exception of apple, South African market is a dumping ground for old stock. While it has improved, the prices for local stock is ridiculous.Imports are generally so much better specced, sure warranty and such is a hassle.
However I still wouldn't recommend the dixon, knowing you can do much better.Teclast is an extremely popular brand, not only with their tablets but their ultra books being completely awesome and pretty much out price local competition and has been around since 1999.

Cash crusaders isn't going to be able to repair the tablet, while it will have the benefit of local warranty, it is pretty much all you have you won't get spares either, which makes it a moot point really, as gearbest and banggood offer the same 1 year warranty, shipping costs and such is refunded on a valid return.

Really can't recommend 2gig ram/32gig rom at that price, it isn't good value/performance for the money, realistically 1.5k-1.7k

It really is unfortunately, the 2 gig RAM and 32 gig ROM are actually decently priced for a South African tablet. Compared to others I've seen it's a gem, the screen is also pretty good in that price range. Though I did last night find it's only Widevine L3, so Netflix won't be HD :-(. But my son has been watching Showmax on there and it's HD looks fine, aspect ratio a little odd.
If you want to import and can import go for it, I did snag a beaut way back when and it's still a good viable option for some good tablets.

Extra gig of ram would have been awesome, 32gig is too bad you do get a bit less with android installed so likely close to 25gig which can be expanded with an sd card. I have a 128gig sd card, but don't even use it with my tablet having 128gig. Using it in my amazon tablet which I have used twice, which I placed back in the plastic wrap and packed away as a backup in the event of a power failure.

Have two powerbanks a 30kmah and 20kmah and with the 6350mah battery of the tablet I have yet to run out.
Showmax works on teclast, can't load dstv now app, but it works via chrome browser if you select the desktop site.Don't use netflix any more, so don't know if it works, guess you could always sideload it.

Granted an extra gig would've been good, you do need to close apps sometimes but for an 8 year old it's really good.

Makes a huge difference with split screen, and I use it often, watch a video and browse the forum is butter smooth, often having a couple of tabs open in chrome.Multitasking is definitely a breeze. Won't ever settle for less then 4gig ram. The dixon I got I paid R199.00 for, won a 1k takealot voucher on mybb with a black friday comp 2 years back or so.The quality of the battery wasn't particularly good after the first year the battery life degraded drastically from normal use. While the performance was decent, had lag issues playing mvk files, tablet was used and abused and was fun playing chipset supporting games.

Sold it last month for R500.00, have the amazon as a backup, which ironically I also won on mybb, as I have a lenovo ideapad 1 slim as a general run around and back up.

Very happy with the Doogee. Only two problems are the build-in loudspeaker is not that great and sounds tinny but I use bluetooth speakers/earphones anyway and Netflix is stuck on 480p which will be the case on most of these Chinese tablets. Also tried Netflix via Kodi but it's the same. The 2gb ram is not that big of a deal for me.

@ R2561.90
This is actually a pretty sweet deal, CPU bit slower then the helio series, camera not so great. but for the price and android 10. This is currently best deal around for the price and getting android 10.0

Dixon is actually the Cash Crusaders house brand, they source stuff from a whole range of suppliers and rebrand it. They used to sell garbage but in recent years it's become really good. From my experience most of their stuff is the best value for money you can get in SA.

Case in point is they have recently started selling QuickCharge 3 battery banks, very nicely made, numeric charge indicator, USB C input and output. Fast charging works great on my LG G6 and by miracle the battery bank also supports fast charging of the the bank itself. Sadly it doesn't support low current output, the only negative, which for most people won't even be on the radar.

R239 for 10000mAh and R329 for 20000mAh. They also have 12v QC3 cigarette lighter chargers for cars, I haven't used one but it looks good, they sell for R100.

R329.00 for a 20 000mah battery banks is suspect quality wise, wouldn't be surpised if you get about 12 000mah out of it.. I made the mistake of buying a fonsi 30 000 mah batterybank on takealot. Barely pushes 15 000mah is significantly lighter then the romoss 20 000 mah and romosss sense 8+ 30 000mah I recently got to replace the fonsi.

The fonsi warranty expired recently so decided to open it up, said to have samsung batteries inside instead had some cheap ass batteries inside for a total of 20 000 mah. but only does closer to 12 000-15 000mah pending the device and cable used.

Didn't get rid of it, got it on special and just lowered my expectations, I paid what you would expect of a 20 000 mah batterybank. That said the romoss 20 000mah manages to run circles around the fonsi with the same rated 20 000mah. Quality of the batteries in powerbanks is proportional to the price with known trusted brands. In other words powerbanks aren't created equal and you get what you pay for. Honestly with powerbanks, brand really does matter.

Wouldn't touch a housebrand or no name powerbank ever again, as it is very unlikely that you are getting more then 60-70% of the rated capacity, which is far below the average of quality brands like romoss.

I don't know about your Fong kong fonsi brand but Dixon makes decent stuff, you get what's on the box.

I've noticed they are cheaper across the board apples for apples, I think the price advantage is due to Dixon being their housebrand, there's no middle man or distributor to pay, it's all direct imports. Cash Crusaders is global and from what I understand the local guys benefit from their scale of economies, the global distribution buys vast quantities so they'll get Banggood rates and a fair bit better. I've actually spotted a few unbranded products on Gearbest and Banggood that look identical to some of Dixon's.

The battery bank looks very well made and I wouldn't be surprised if it is close to the rated capacity. It's li-po based and has zero signs of cut corners, the plastic moulding and printing is all A-grade. Having owned 5 or 6 Romoss battery banks I'd rate the outward quality neck on neck with Romoss, it bodes well.

Cash Crusaders isn't international? That's cash converters you're thinking of. Though the new Dixon stuff does seem to be of better quality, I bought a Dixon kettle for like R99 3 years ago, rock solid and still going.
Where I've had more expensive brands pop after a year. Even their speakers quality has improved.

Interesting I always thought they were both international(Australian imports) but google says not, which makes Cash Crusaders products and prices even more impressive.
"Cash Crusaders first opened its doors in January 1996 in Plumstead, Cape Town"

Well I took heed of Wizardofid's warning regarding the capacity of battery banks and tested the Dixon one..
lol, looks like I got shafted, such a nice looking well made device but the 10000mAh version I bought only has around 5000mAh of usable capacity. That's assuming my USB in-line battery meter is accurate.

Wizardofid how did you check the capacity of your Fong Jong battery bank?

USB load tester and 2.5a USB led light, a clock and math. Also ran down my tablet on purpose and charged it up. managed to get two full charges in.Tablet is 6 000mah.

You didn't get shafted per say, I told you lesser quality banks should provide between 60% - 70% of the rated capacity.

Well considering I essentially paid R239 for a 5000mAh bank I did get shafted, now it's not a great deal it's just meh.

The Romoss 10000mAh is around twice that price but then it's a Romoss, has low power mode and has a lipo battery that has less chance of going up in flames.

You can generally tell by the size of the bank how many 18650's are in there. Knowing what those cells are capable of will generally tell you that those claims of capacity are an overstatement.
