Chippa United moving to PE?

It's going to be a busy time at the stadium.
25 000 people in yesterday as Chippa lost 4-2 to Chiefs. A decent crowd for a friendly, though organisation still needs to be jacked up at the stadium. Hopefully everything is sorted by 8 August when the first PSL match kicks off, though it could also be the first planning issue. EP is also supposed to play WP in the Currie Cup on the same day.
I was speaking to the head groundsman last night and one has been moved to the 9th - I'm pretty sure it's the PSL match.

Well that's good, and there is wiggle room. Rugby can be either Friday or Saturday, while soccer can also be played on a Sunday afternoon. The issue though would that Chippa wouldn't want a Sunday game followed by a Tuesday one.
The other oddity I noticed was that the pitch was still marked at 100m long, instead of FIFA's preferred 105m. I couldn't notice if the width was 68m, or still 70m from the rugby test.
The pitch did look to be in a really good condition though. The groundsman will have a lot of work to do from now onwards.
Fortunately it looks like that's the only conflict.
One thing I did notice as I was entering their fixtures into my calendar is Chippa is down to play four home matches at Fezile Dabi Stadium in the Free State.

Saw the same thing in the Sunday Times and PSL website. Mpengesi wanted to host matches there, probably to make a little more money. The NMBM says that all 15 matches will be in PE though. Hopefully the municipality did get that detail sorted out.
Chippa also play away on the 13th and 14th of December, when the 7s are in PE, which is good.

Officially no, his work permit only came through in time for the last match against Ajax… unless there was a match after that I missed?
FWIW the photographers (and I'm guessing all media) were specifically requested not to caption him as Head Coach prior to the Ajax match in case it fouled things up with Home Affairs.

From what I understand, he left as he disagreed with Mitch d'Avery's appointment as technical director.
While Costa couldn't legally coach without a work permit, Roger Sikhakhane, his assistant, was on the phone to him from the bench.
Chippa United is also known for its coaching roundabout.

Yip, the craziness continues. What worries me more is that they will be playing matches in East London.

I assume that they mean Buffalo City Stadium, but I hate the idea of PE losing matches. I thought that part of the deal with the metro was that all games would be in PE.

They can't play all of their matches at NMB Stadium - afaik the one on the 13th of Feb will be in EL - not entirely sure where, they told me and I promptly forgot

My guess would be either the new field isn't in yet, or it is part of a funding deal with the province. If it's the field, that's poor planning, hopefully they fix it for nest season. If it's a demand from the provincial government, it sucks for PE, but is understandable.
Looking ahead, I see 6 May as a problem date. EP have Vodacom Cup game against the Sharks, while Chippa play Chiefs. The PSL match has to be played on that date, at 3pm, as it's the final round.
The pitch is going to take some time. If Chippa hadn't had that last match so late it would probably have been ready in time.
It's the 9th of May but when it comes to the PSL their schedule tends to be fairly fluid. Maybe not so much being the final round though. Either way if last season is anything to go by there's a good chance that the EPK vs Sharks will be played at a different venue.

I didn't see anything confirmed, but the metro said that they could not meet the full cost of the team, and would ask the province for assisstance. As part of that deal, the province wants matches in East London and Mthatha. The PSL restricts teams to 2 home grounds, but the rule isn't always enforced.
Access and Chippa did announce that all matches would be at NMB Stadium though.
