Can a 540M comfortably run an average not so demanding game(bioshock series, mass effect,NFS ect)
at
(2xAA 2xAF medium +-1440x900) at 30FPS+ ?

Question 2. I want a lappy
budget is around 10k

I`d like the following
15" to 17" screen
i5/7 dual/quad 2GHZ+ preferebly quad
8GB RAM (or space to upgrade to 8)
500GB-1TB
Something along the lines of a 540M with optimus for battery life
USB3 would be nice.

BF3/Crysis/Metro 2033 class games Playable on very low

I would prefer to buy from sybaritic but prophecy/rebeltech ect are fine too

This seems to fit exactly into my requirements

Found this which seems to offer good specs at and will fit in your budget.

R 9,643.00 + R250 (extra 4GB) = R9893.00 + R100 delivery (roughly) = R9983.00 approx

I`d like the following

i5/7 dual/quad 2GHZ+ preferebly quad (Ivybridge 3rd Gen Dual Core with HT, 2.5Ghz Turbo 3.1Ghz)
8GB RAM (or space to upgrade to 8) (4GB + 4GB - R250 approx)
500GB-1TB (750GB)
Something along the lines of a 540M with optimus for battery life (not sure)
USB3 would be nice. (Yes - native USB3.0 - Ivybridge)

My laptop has a GT540M and its performance was very surprising.
Admittedly i don't play many games anymore but it handled Skyrim on Ultra at native resolution. (Just with AA turned off)

+1 to NomNom's suggestion.

I was going to suggest http://www.wootware.co.za/gigabyte-...b-hdd-win-7-pro-17-3-ivy-bridge-notebook.html - until I saw that it is the exact same laptop (but costs slightly less) :D
I think Rebeltech also has this laptop for cheaper. So if you do your shopping right, you could save like R500 and spend that on a carrying bag.

The 1600x900 resolution is a perfect combination for gaming/work, because it is low enough so that it isn't that demanding on the graphics card and high enough that you can work with large spreadsheets.

This laptop comes with a 2 year warranty, which is decent, but unfortunately not 3 years :(

Perhaps just go and read up reviews on this particular laptop before going out and buying it!

Yeah I`l probably go with the Q1742N from Rebeltech
Another question :

Q1732N
Intel i7 2630QM, 2.00GHz 2.9Ghz Turbo
NVIDIA GT540M (2GB)/Intel HD3000
4GB RAM

R8400
vs

Q1742N
Intel i7 3610QM, 2.30GHz 3.3Ghz Turbo
NVIDIA GT640M (2GB)/Intel HD4000
4GB RAM

R9600
Worth the extra R1200?
I want something that will last a few years and the 640M/HD4k has a lot more grunt than the 540M/3k respectively.

I also intend to add another 4GB ram to either in the future
Also how are dealings with rebeltech? same as Prophecy/Sybaritic?

not to hi-jack this thread, but I'm also in the market for a 17.3" and would have liked to have two dics, one magnetic for data and one SSD for booting and operating system - I'm prepared to pay up to R18k and warranty must be 2 years or longer. Use machine mostly for Excel and iTunes

Anybody know if above is available or any other tips?

According to Notebookcheck the 640M is quite a bit better than the 540M: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-640M.71579.0.html

I didn't realize that the Gigabyte laptop at Rebeltech only included 4GB of RAM. The one at Wootware includes 8GB of RAM, but it costs R9,803 compared to the one at Rebeltech which costs R9,584.

If you want something that will last you longer, then I'd say the R1400 price difference is worth it.

@Bundu:
Create your own thread, seeing that your requirements are quite a lot different, because you're not playing games.
