Choosing a Nespresso machine

That's where I bought mine.
Do they give you free pods?

Just free coffee of your choice to drink whenever you visit their store, whether you buy anything or not. This offer extends to all Nespresso stores worldwide. I don't know how you are supposed to indentify yourself abroad although visiting Nespresso shops just to drink coffee overseas can be silly. The pods are cheaper overseas too so maybe stocking up on them while abroad makes sense.

Ended up getting the Nespresso U.
Makes 3 different sizes. Cup holder and water tank just clip off (attached magnetically).
@Home have a special, bundled with Aerochino frother, for R2300.
Take Discovery credit card discount into account and it comes out just over R2k.
Good price I reckon.

I almost bought that machine and frother, but the Russel Hobs milk frother is R380 from checkers. I just couldnt justify spending an extra R900 to be able to put a mug under it.

So technically one could visit the V&A store every day in passing and have a free coffee with the paper and they can't say no? And instead of looking for a Costa in the UK you should look for a Nespresso store as damn everything's expensive over there.

Checker's has compatible capsules. But Nespresso's range is large enough already.

Lately however, I've been brewing Starbucks and occasionally importing Starbucks VIA Instant.

Gotta say i tried Starbucks (from checkers). Yeah don't get the hype, it wasn't that good at all. Even locally grown coffee outshines that.

I recently got a Citiz bundled with the Aerochino. Best solution for coffee! Also tried the refillable capsules with my own coffee but I still prefer the taste of the Nespresso capsules (even with their price). I really do recommend the Citiz. If you go to the store in Sandton they have a printed recipe book, you can find it on the net as well.

They are decent coffees.
I've probably only stuck to 3 brands of instant coffee, and I'm happy with that.

I wouldn't mind some illy or lavazza pods though.

There's also a House of Coffee's range of Nespresso compatible pods - Lavazza pods only for Lavazza machines tho :(

The hype is about the store-produced coffees with the myriad choices of how the final product is made.
Nothing particularly wonderful about their beans.

I have tried the Vida pods. The plastic (instead of aluminium) ones just don't work right. House of Coffees look plastic

How much coffee is grown locally?

I love the vida pods. I dont see a difference between the foil pods and the plastic?

I have the CitiZ, the SO bought that specific model because it looks sexy. I dont like the look of the latest model Latissima

In retrospect as much as I like Nespresso, i would rather have bought a good self grind Cappucino machine

I have done exactly the same. However i find the following retro looking model even more sexier than the CitiZ http://www.dionwired.co.za/applianc...1/coffee-makers/nespresso-grand-maestria.html however huge price difference between the citi z and the grand maestria

At the office we have a bean to coffee machines (using Woolies espresso coffee beans), and must be honest I find the Nespresso pods taste way better

My machine doesn't pierce the plastic properly so it means pre-piercing with a knife or a double run through the machine

Go to a Nespresso shop and have them demo the lot for you and get the free coffee.

You'll get all the answers there.

I have the opposite problem with those Caffeluxe pods.

Because they are plastic they get too hot and therefore stuck in the machine. They pierce just fine but I don't like using them fearing they might cock my machine up.

Got my Lattisima+ today. Looking forward to trying it out tonight.

Anywhere I can find good looking Latte cups/glasses?
