Choosing new tyres

Depends on the manufacturer but in the context of the thread the OP doesn't seem to care about price or alleged kickbacks and was looking for recommendations so manufacturer recommendations would be just fine.

Understood.
But what I meant is that vehicle manufacturer recommended does not imply best tyre for your vehicle.

And there are plenty of manufacturers who do extensive testing of tyres (eg. N rated etc) but that's a discussion for another time.

Yeah. For the spots cars but not for many standard saloons.
In fact we don’t know even know what car OP is driving.
 
Firestones- them stones last forever. Just rotate on a regular basis.
Hard compound- longer durabilty
Softer compound- greater grip i.e Pirellies.

Unless you drive like you on a race track, hard compound tyre give more than adequate grip and last longer. You just have to buy well known brands.
