Chris Cornell died?

Michael Hutchinson was also found hanging:

" Auto-erotic asphyxia is a method of increasing sexual excitement by restricting the oxygen supply to the brain, usually by tightening a noose around the neck"

I was never a huge fan of Soundgarden (although I certainly enjoy some of their songs) but listening to a couple tracks posted in the thread brought back a lot of memories for me, that's for sure...

Confirmed: Chris Cornell killed himself by hanging

Detroit - Chris Cornell, one of the most lauded and respected contemporary lead singers in rock music with his bands Soundgarden and Audioslave, hanged himself on Wednesday in a Detroit hotel room, according to the city's medical examiner. He was 52.
The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office said on Thursday it completed the preliminary autopsy on Cornell, but that "a full autopsy report has not yet been completed". A police spokesperson told two Detroit newspapers that the singer was found with a band around his neck.
"There is no additional information at this time," the Wayne County office added.
Cornell's death stunned his family and his die-hard fans, who Cornell just performed for hours earlier at a show in Detroit. Soundgarden's current tour kicked off in late April and was planned to run through May 27. He was found dead at the MGM Grand Detroit hotel by a family friend who went to his room after Cornell's wife asked him to check on the singer, police said.
Cornell was a leader of the grunge movement with Seattle-based Soundgarden — with whom he gained critical and commercial acclaim — but also found success outside the band with other projects, including Audioslave, Temple of the Dog as well as solo albums.
He was widely respected in the music industry: He reached success in every band line-up he was part of it, his voice was memorable and powerful, and he was a skilled songwriter, even collaborating on a number of film soundtracks, including the James Bond theme song for 2006's Casino Royale and The Keeper from the film Machine Gun Preacher, which earned Cornell a Golden Globe nomination.
"To create the intimacy of an acoustic performance there needed to be real stories. They need to be kind of real and they need to have a beginning, middle and an end," Cornell said of songwriting in a 2015 interview with The Associated Press. "That's always a challenge in three in a half or four minutes — to be able to do that, to be able to do it directly."

lol, so you never experienced the period of grunge?

am I that old

Road Rash on PS 1 was released in 1991 i think. I was still a youngster by then. and only knew music that played on the radio, or my mom's 'now-that's-what-i-call-k.k' cd's. I remember being blown away by the intro, and listening to the kickstand song until it finished on multiple times.

From there it went to soundagarden/nirvana/incubus/pearl jam/green day/blink 182 phase.

Yes we're old now...

His world revolved around his family first and, of course, his music second. He flew home for Mother's Day to spend time with our family. He flew out mid-day Wednesday, the day of the show, after spending time with the children. When we spoke before the show, we discussed plans for a vacation over Memorial Day and other things we wanted to do."

However, following Soundgarden's concert Wednesday night, Vicky noticed a change in her husband's demeanor when they talked on the phone after the show.

"When we spoke after the show, I noticed he was slurring his words; he was different. When he told me he may have taken an extra Ativan or two, I contacted security and asked that they check on him," she continued. "What happened is inexplicable and I am hopeful that further medical reports will provide additional details. I know that he loved our children and he would not hurt them by intentionally taking his own life."

An attorney for the Cornell family, Kirk Pasich, reiterated Vicky's belief that an extra dosage of Ativan, an anxiety medication often employed by recovering addicts, altered Chris Cornell's mental faculties after the Detroit show. Pasich added that the Cornell family is "disturbed at inferences that Chris knowingly and intentionally took his life."

"Without the results of toxicology tests, we do not know what was going on with Chris — or if any substances contributed to his demise," Pasich said. "Chris, a recovering addict, had a prescription for Ativan and may have taken more Ativan than recommended dosages. The family believes that if Chris took his life, he did not know what he was doing, and that drugs or other substances may have affected his actions."

Pasich added that side effects of Ativan include "paranoid or suicidal thoughts, slurred speech and impaired judgment"; Vicky Cornell noted her husband's slurred speech following the Detroit concert in her statement.

She added, "The outpouring of love and support from his fans, friends and family means so much more to us than anyone can know. Thank you for that, and for understanding how difficult this is for us."

Hours after Cornell's death at a Detroit hotel, a medical examiner's report confirmed that the singer had died by suicide.
