ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa has called on Christians to be South Africa's moral conscience when it came to crimes such as rape, City Press reported on Sunday.

"There is no better agent than Christians and the church to raise the morals, the moral consciousness of our nation," Ramaphosa was quoted as saying at the Pentecostal Holiness Church on Saturday.

"It falls on us as Christians. We must say this is a sin. This is a crime. Rape is a sin and it is a crime.

"We are the ones, as Christians, who must stand up and say: 'Corruption, we will never accept it, because it is a sin. It is a crime'."

The newspaper reported that Ramaphosa said Christians needed to be at the forefront of preventing the abuse of women.

"We also need to be the moral conscience of our country when it comes to respect for woman and acting against rapists," he said.

I agree.

(Deuteronomy 22:28-29 NLT)
If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her.

Ok...

Oh yes, the church has always been on the forefront of not abusing women and children. FFS

Morals and Christians do not necessarily go hand in hand.

Ah, the ANC really does bring out the stupid in people.

While the sentiment is great, the execution is atrocious...

Cyril, can I just say, fsck you too.

I am not Christian, or religious and I have a moral compass that is considerably better than yours or any of your corrupt cronies.

Cyril is definitely no idiot, but why this statement?

Also why the Pentecostal Holiness which is an American influenced church…??? They are Methodist Episcopal based and known for fighting the issue of slavery in America.

I have my doubt with much American based ideology, specifically regarding churches…

And that is how the majority of Christians live?

Ok.........
He didn't say the majority of Christians. He just said Christians.

There are some Christians out there spewing some truly vitriolic ideas. Heck there are Christians out there that want to restrict the rights of other human beings based on sexual orientation. Look at that Peter Hammond guy.

I don't want Peter Hammond to be my moral conscience... do you?

I suppose if you hang around with zoomer enough he starts rubbing off on you...

I think it is more church specific, go read on the Pentecostal Holiness Church doctrine. Also he made his statement at the church, so public announcing this made sense when directing it to Christians should it have been a broader audience, his statement would have been flawed.

I'm curious, could you provide an argument for an existence of objective morality, and ergo why rape is bad.

Christ, the lengths you will go to to defend anything theistic-related is beyond a joke...:wtf:
