Wife insists on sending cards to people in the UK, Switzerland and Australia. Heard from two addressees in the UK and three in Australia that the envelopes had been slit open on one side with a knife. The cards were missing in two cases, but they recognised the handwriting

The local Postmaster says he can (if she insists) make out a complaint and POST it to the division in Pretoria but he doubts they will reply

Looking for money perhaps?

or you guy's are cheapskates and sending just cut envelopes and blaming the ever so efficient and honest SAPO

Have had cards come from the UK that were opened. Why do they think people still send money through the postal service?

because people still trust the SAPO and still do send money

Op didnt send cash didn't state that... You are also not allowed to send cash via post...

I would advise that you follow up on this further and try to make their life hell. Lack of assistance or any professionalism from a service provider like SAPO should be punishable IMO.

Doesn't everyone do that?

My dad used to send me dollars to exchange in England when I went to school there. One day I asked him if he wasn't worried about someone stealing them - that's when I found out they were counterfeit notes he got from a friend who owned a bar. :o

They must be dumbasses if they think people still send cash via mail.

Although they do work at the post office.
Well last I saw, the average IQ of that lot was around 70, but boy, they sure know how to steal
