For anybody to post what Zyzzava did is totally uncalled for. Such opinions are kept to yourself in these circumstances. For a christian too this is sad news.

I've only watched his debate with Dembski, and somehow he had a more pleasant demeanor than many of his peers. Was touching when he said that he appreciated the prayers that religious people made for him.
 
This man will forever be a legend in my eyes.
The one thought that makes me sad to be an atheist is the thought that no matter what, I will never get to meet this man or see him again. Heaven or hell, reincarnation or no.
Then a happy thought takes over. Realising that I dont have to fool myself into waiting to meet him in the afterlife. I can fully appreciate his existing and only contributions that he will ever make in this universe. And a fantastic contribution it is.

His work was not done, but he fought on even through sickness and disease. He has worked hard, now it is time to rest and pass the torch on.

All I can say is thank progress for Youtube. At least his videos will be forever immortalised on the interwebs.

Yes of course it is sad, the saddest moment possible, which is why he would appreciate my comment much more than everyone's condolences. The answering of the ultimate question would interest him far more at this point, considering the man.

Yes... of course, he will burn in hell for all eternity for basically using the intellect he was gifted with to explore and find out answers for himself as opposed to believing in a book inspired by a god who enjoys playing hide and go seek, this book also states that the sun revolves around the earth and that two of every single living species entered an ark and survived a flood then re-populated the entire planet (seeing as the world is 6000 years old, the elephants must have really enjoyed their swim over the oceans).... while pastors who stole money from communities for self enrichment get a halo + eternal bliss >_<

Quick question, if I say I believe... can I go out stealing, cheating and raping? I mean all that matters to you is that I believe in what you say I should right?

I understand its rather insensitive, which was why i kept it short and relatively nonspecific (he would find out he was wrong even if he went to heaven). The bottom line is the guy was known for a number of things, but recently, largely as one of the four horsemen of new atheism which isn't exactly nothing. At the very least him crossing over and finding the first actual instance of a solid answer either confirming or denying his perspective - a perspective which he was so insistent about - is worth a short quip.

I won't apologize for what most of the world believes, but ill apologize for the brief moment of insensitivity. Ultimately though, he made his choice to lead others down the same path, a path which most of the world believes ends badly. I still stand by the idea that atheism has only two logical ends: nihilism or damnation, neither of which is desirable.

But i never wanted to turn this into a debate, so i will refrain from any further comment.

You don't have to apologize at all, really.

It was the arrogance of your certitude that annoys me, but I understand that this is a natural outcome based on your personal theology (I presume).

I'd honestly be interested in a discussion about nihilism, as I'd tend to agree that, yes, ultimately, everything is indeed pointless, but as far as I can gather, there is no reason to concoct fantastical fantasy universes, in which to live, as desirable as that might appear on the surface.

Also, yes, you can believe that the path Hitchens led people down was a bad one, but I really must suggest an honest look at the history of mankind, and the current role of religion in world politics...
