Chrome 8 shines with new features

Thought I would give Chrome a test drive...damn it is quite a bit faster than FF so far. I might just have to convert.

It took Microsoft 15 years to go from Internet Explorer 1 to 9 and it took Opera 15 years to go from Opera 1 to 11.

In two years Chrome has gone from 1 to 8 and it still carries a "Beta" sticker. What kind of inferior piece of software is that when it needs to many versions just to keep to date?

Chrome, Firefox and all other Mozilla based browsers are pooh - thats why it attracts so many flies.

Your life must be a living hell Roux :p

My life has been great since I started using Opera 10 years ago. Nothing comes close to it.

Holy hell... Opera was a piece of crap for me years ago when I tried using it. Seems to have cleaned up its act nicely now and are flying.
Your stubborn in your face comment will hopefully provide me with some entertainment as the other stubborn people on this forum possibly try to take you on for talking crap :-)

Chrome has misbehaved more often on my machine that FF, but I still like that it starts up alot faster than FF. What I prefer about FF still at this stage:
Ctrl-B bolds text when posting on MyBB and other bulletins, among other sortcuts - these don't work in chrome for some reason.
FF has better live bookmarks. Chrome has an addin thats not quite as good.

Chrome has merits too, cleaner screen for one - bigger...

Question - is Chrome still as insecure as it was to start with?

I like it, but the one thing I don't accept is the speed claim. If every version of Chrome is really n times faster than the previous version it should by now be doing stuff before I even think about it!

My sentiments exactly, every time a browser releases an update they have to claim it is 3 times faster than the previous version. Surely Chrome 8 cannot be 20 times faster than Chrome 01.
Opera are also guilty of this. At least the bottom line that they are indeed fast, even more stable.

Opera has got some unique features and is pretty fast. I don't think anything comes close to their opera mobile.

HOWEVER....The http://ie.microsoft.com/testdrive/Performance/FishIETank/ site works on all browsers except Opera.

Reminds me of YahooMail - was in Beta for years. Does anyone out there knows if it is still alive?

I sold many on my friends on Firefox over the years...some took a while to catch on. I decided to try Chrome a year ago, and needless to say, Firefox has become my pickup truck. I use it to do what I cannot do in my Ferrari F-Chrome....I am sorry, but when it comes to speed, Chrome just works the best by far! Have a few clients with really old pc's. If I encounter issues with IE X or Firefox, then I just sell them onto Chrome. I so far had 1 person not like it.(Think her internet radio did not work or something stupid, but then again, she also use incredimail, so she is a lost case) The rest like the fact that when you click on the icon, it opens up almost instantly.

I just wish they would fix the crappy, jagged font rendering in Chrome without having to use GDI++ or some other klunky workaround.

Well done

Downloaded it yesterday and tried it this morning and well done Google!
With IE8 my accessing my Yahoo mail was normally a problem, I would get regular timeouts on it, no problem with Crome.
Also trying to view my fav cartoon, Dilbert is near impossible on IE8 as it would never show the site, the last time I could actually view the site was about 2 months ago.
With Chrome, I could view all of the past 2 months worth of cartoons in a matter of seconds!
Now too totally get rid of IE8 and use only Chrome! (but then you get STUPID sites like GM.CO.ZA  where you can only do bookings on their site if you run IE !!!!!) stupid!
