Chrome won't open google as start page?

Weird one. Chrome is set to use a start page www.google.com

When the browser opens it goes to https://www.google.co.za/?gws_rd=cr&ei=<text string> but nothing gets displayed in the browser?

If you click on the 'home' button it opens the page just fine though.

Maybe check the chrome shortcut properties. See if the target string has anything extra added.

Still the same thing, blank page with www.google.com in the url field.

Nothing extra.

Putting nothing for the start page also gives me a blank page instead of the google speedial options.

Something must have embedded itself as nothing I did would fix it. Uninstalled and then reinstalled, all good now.
