I noticed today that while watching a Youtube video in Chrome, Chrome's CPU usage jumps up to about 50% of my CPU's capacity. That's more than the CPU usage than I see while watching a full HD video in VLC.

I have an Intel Core 2 Duo E6750. Does this sound right to you? What's your Youtube playback CPU usage in different browsers?

using internet explorer while watching a youtube video cpu usage spiked to 10% on an I5 760 quad core, for like 1s, but then went back to 3% for a short while, followed by going back to 1% for most of the video

I tried with a different 360p video now and usage was about 1-5%. WTH? It's not a reproducible issue anyway. Thanks!

My Core i3 never goes higher than 15% when watching YouTube movies, I'm using IE9 beta with hardware acceleration > so the graphics card does most of the work.
