Have an LG tv with a HDMI port and MTN Lte contract.
Want to stream my Netflix contract movies.
Which is best and easiest for me to set up ?
Ten thumbed luddite.

I have both and prefer the Roku by far. It's very easy to use.

Unless you want Showmax or DSTV - in which case Roku isnt for you.

Have a DSTV subscription. Mostly needed for wife in wheelchair to watch Netflix movies ?

If you want to stream DSTV then the Roku won't work but for Netflix, and many other streaming services, it's great.

I have a Chromecast and would recommend it.

I have a Samsung TV with HDMI.
Plug in, setup and use.
I do everything from my phone.
You can use it with DSTv, Plex, Netflix, Spotify, Showmax and the list goes on.

Thanks, which model ? Seems a lot out there ? Perhaps one powered by tv s USB port ?

No. It's not powered by your USB port.
It has USB charging to a plug, which is like a Cellphone charger. I actually use an old cell charger to power mine.

HDMI into TV. Power to plug.

I suggest going for the newest one if you can afford it. I'm using it on Telkom LTE for about 2 years. Lost my V1 due to lightning and got a V2 from a member here a while ago.

Review of 4th gen:

Mine is powered by the USB port or using an adapter. I prefer using the port because it switches off when you turn off the TV.

The downside is you have to control it with your phone. If you're going to saddle yourself with a chromecast get one with a dedicated remote.

My current one has a WiFi bug or something when it loses power or the connection goes down. I need to restart everything including the Router to get it up and running again. Sometimes it's just so stubborn I actually reset it to factory defaults.

That's the reason I don't power it to the USB port and my suggestion not to do it.

The previous owner had the same issue. So it's not my hardware or network.

The previous owner of that particular chromecast? Sounds like it definitely is a hardware issue.

Edit - and it's really no reason to suggest anyone else doesn't run it off the USB port on the TV. Most people do.

Yep. There's many references of it on Google. So it's not just mine with the issue.

You understood why I suggest not powering it to USB port? If it switches off when the TV is off and you switch it on it doesn't connect to WiFi again. Stubborn etc. I also don't know most people with a Chromecast except the members here.

Thanks guys for all your input.

Seems I must do more digging to sort out the easiest re plug in and leave in etc

Wife is happy to push input on tv remote but not sort out programmes on phone etc. Perhaps just push input and Netflix will play ? Expecting a miracle ?

Chromecast is plug and play. If you get the one with the remote, Chromecast 4th Gen with Android TV, she should be sorted.
