Cisco develops system to automatically cut off pirate streams

Wouldn't a VPN bypass this?
It would. And Cisco wouldn't ever block VPNs...part of their core customer base (enterprise) VPNs the sht out of everything. Hell my phone & laptop barely function without it.

Would only protect the user pirating and not the one providing the stream.
oh I'm sure they'll cry many tears if one of their thousands of streams gets cut off by a router somewhere along the way.

I don't think you understand what they want to do.

I may have commented without reading article. :o

Anyway...read it now. A similar system has been in use for both cinemas and pre-release copies for years. Its done nothing to curb piracy. A slightly more automated approach will just make it automatically achieve nothing.

Also...the VPN angle isn't all that far off the mark: You can encrypt video streams with https (netflix does)...and the cisco tech won't be able to detect the watermarks then.

This is a grand waste of everyone's time.
