dont bother, use Dynamips/GNS3
its a simulator that uses actual cisco IOS images..
I would second that. besides you have 1 router that can only do X amount.
what happens when you want to setup 2 routers to talk to each other?
buy 2 routers?
Its good to use both, like I said previously getting the hands-on experience is very important, something simulations cant give u.
I have emailed the OP earlier already the needed stuff to get his simulations up and running.

The 2600 is nice, but I prefer the 2800 series. I saw a 2500 the other day and almost browned myself. I guess we get used to upgrades
With regards to a sim vs the actual router, I find that the only difference, well obviously, is that you need to make sure that you are able to do and understand all the cabling and physical setup. Other than that a simulator (with more than one router in CCNP's case) is more than enough.
The 2800s went for around R10k the last I heard.... not too sure.Sure -- prefer the 2800 -- what do these sell for currently
I am on about my 12th Cisco device and enjoying every minute of the collecting. A 2501 has a certain nostalgia about it
Can a SIM show you how to check and change flash and dram , how to upload images by XMODEM. How to assemble Network Modules. What all the different cables are and how and where they get connected.
How to access and manipulate the file system etc etc![]()
and I have not even spoken about switches.
Why does Wendell Odom ( the guy that puts the official CCNA Cisco Press books together) have a whole blog about setting up a Cisco Lab with real routers and switches

Dude, we are talking about studying for the exam and using either a simulator or real life appliance to pass. Yes, obviously there is no substitute for the real thing, but to fork out a couple k for an appliance or use a FREE simulator its a no brainer....
I am very glad u can afford 12 cisco devices, most of us simply cant or dont want to waste the money on it.
soz this is off topic....
what would be the comparison between cisco and hp procurve?
has anyone worked with both? which is better?
I have signed up for procurve training ......
