Civic 1.8i vs civic type r

If you want luxury, get the 1.8 VXi spec. You get heated leather seats and, if you get a 2009-facelift model, you also get rear PDC, auto wipers, auto lights and USB and aux inputs. All features the Type-R doesn't have...

That's what made up my mind back then - I could get the VXi Auto or the Type-R with R5k price difference between the two (Type-R being more expensive, obviously).

the type R is probably the closest thing to an all out race care we have on our roads. I'm not talking speed, coz yes the type r is fast 0-100 in 6.6seconds, but thats jsut barely quicker than the GTI's and OPC's and other hot hatches on the market.
the trick with the type R is the handling. the suspension is rock solid, the steering is uber direct, and the ride is very harsh! on the road, all those factors are cons... but on the track, they all work together to sling the type R around corners like a go kart!

the 1.8 is refined, soft, easy to drive.. its a daily driver that anyone can get used to. its got good fuel economy and its very practical with its space etc.. 0-100.. lol.. should be around 9seconds..
that and all the nice to haves like heated seats etc etc etc..

I would get the type R. its what i drive, and love to bits!
i also have the accord type S..and they say the civic 1.8s ride very similar..
 
lsd was only in the championship white type R's in 2009.. and then from 2010 onwards they were all fitted with it.

That 6.6seconds is seriously optimistic ... at the coast I can't image it getting a sub 7 seconds and up here at reef, you won't crack 8 seconds in a standard one no matter many times you practice. You'll never be ahead of a Golf 6 GTI or OPC at any altitude

If you're at reef, I'd give it a miss

While the CTR has a bit less power than those, what it has working for it is no turbo lag and more importantly better gearing. It's basically geared for a drag strip so I find it quite probable that a CTR can outdo a GTI on 0-100.

... you're talking coastal?

CAR magazine got a dismal 7.75 seconds at the coast.

I slaughter them at reef altitude - and myself and a Golf GTI are close. Even my brother in 1.8 modded Golf 1 used to run with them.

It's not a bad car (it's a Honda), but if you're talking speed/power - it doesn't really feature as a 'hot hatch'

Lol, like Dolby said, they no match for a GTI/OPC up here, as the have heavy asthma due to the lack of a turbo... Even a softwared 1.9TDi, yes, a diesel, will give them a hiding robot to robot... Not to fimiliar with there performance at the coast though, but around an 18% increase over its power in the highveld...

Mmmmm, dnt have heated seats, but you surely do have PDC, auto wipers, auto lights and USB and Aux input?? Trying to sell the VXI I see :) Plus the Type R makes up for not having "heated seats" by having a very heated engine.. Buy it!! I have one
 
Type R is more fun, but you need to keep some cash in a savings account for when the clutch/transmission goes.

If its anything like my S2000 was - the LSD will set you back R56,000 excl vat and labour from Honda.
