Anybody with a successful claim with SANRAL regarding pothole damage?

We traveled to Bloemfontein over the weekend and what was suppose to be a 4 hour drive became an 8 hour adventure.

We struck a pothole on the N1 just outside Kroonstad and burst the left rear tyre.
Checked all the other tyres while changing the burst tyre and they all seemed fine after which we continued on our trip.

Just after Winburg we had to pull over and call for help as our other tyre sustained a slow puncture due to the pothole.

While we were stranded on the side of the road in the middle of night a friend from Bloemfontein had to drive the 130km from Bloem to bring us another spare after which we could finally finish our little road trip.

The next morning we had to fit two brand new tyres and both rims also picked up some damage which had to be fixed. R2000 later my friend had his spare back and we tried to enjoy the rest of the weekend.

The friend that helped out is very involved with Arrive Alive and he forwarded me a claim form to submit to SANRAL. Apparently they will pay us back for the costs incurred.

I was just curious to know if anybody has successfully been reimbursed for their expenses caused by pothole damage on the National Freeway.

All I want from SANRAL is a e-mail address, I want to tell them to stop the lane closures at the rigel/R21 N1 south area because a 8 minute drive on that part suddenly became a one hour drive in the morning.

There was also a problem with a stationary bus on the incline approaching Rigel, at 7am this morning. I do agree though, that the bit from Rigel to Hendrik Verwoerd is a pain from 05h30 onwards

While that might have affected the highway from N4 side, getting from Hans Strydom onto rigel/delmas road and then onto the N1 with the onramp is taking 50 minutes at least.

I rather went via fountians circle/eeufees/N14 this morning, got to work on time. If I tried the above id have been at least half an hour late'like I was yesterday.

And because everyone wass stuck in PTA East the highway in midrand was flowing wonderfully at least :)

Can't find a e-mail address on their website. Let me google...

Found it: info[at]nra.co.za

I do have an email address of the regional manager for the Northern region. I need to submit my claim to him.

Please PM to me, I want to CC him on the mail to info[at]nra.co.za

Please note these lane closures are impacting all the surrounding municipal and provincial roads heavily, what is normally a 5 to 10 minute trip from Hans Strydom Road onto Rigel/Delmas road to get to the N1 Rigel onramp is taking 50 minutes or more. All the alternative routes are also heavily congested due to increased traffic trying to use it.

From my observation the N1 south from Garsfontein road and further also gets slowed down heavily due to the lanes closures.

This has been a problem on the 16th and 17th of February 2011.

Please get the contractor to open the lanes during morning rush hour time because no work is taking place on the closed lanes during that period. The rest of the day the road can handle the amount of traffic with the lanes closed.
