So I'm considering getting an uncapped account and I would appreciate it if someone could clarify this product.

http://www.axxess.co.za/uncapped.php

They say that after hours you will get FULL LINE speed i.e. 4mbs even if you only have a 384kb account.

So just to make super sure I understand, I'm going to hit the threshold on day 1, then be throlled to 256kb during business hours BUT have a full unshaped 4mbs line after hours? Also, even if i stay throlled the whole month, I'll still have a full 4mbs after hours every day?

Peace

Thats what it sounds like to me. it is a dam good deal if you ask me. If you have a look on there site it shows the most downloaded in one month was 449gb that is alot of data for one month.... will have to stock up on hard drives if you want to go for the uncapped line..... be doing alot of downloading in that case,

you need to have a 4mb line as well though, hey...

order a 4mb line from telkom but get the 384 uncapped from axxess and then you will get 4mb line speeds after 8at night? is that how it works? or must you order a 4mb uncapped with your line...

You will still have the FULL line speed after 8pm on weekdays and the weekend. This means that if you have a 4Mb/s line, you will get 4Mb/s speed, even if you only have a 384Kbps account!

From the site

labrat any Telkom 4mb line should do.

I'm kinda in disbelief at those figures of 400gb+ downloaded and would really appreciate it if someone who has this account can confirm. I spend more than that per month and get like 1/5th of the cap.

yes, but they talking about your Internet ACCESS account, not your ADSL LINE account.

I thought they are saying that if you have a 4mb Telkom line and 384kbs account with them, u get 4mbs after hours?

Ok, let me say it like this:

384 Telkom line + 384 AXXESS = 384

384 Telkom line + 4MB AXXESS = 384

4MB Telkom line + 384 AXXES = 384, but 4MB at night

hope that clears it up.

for sheezy...i jsut called and confirmed. so the only sucky part is waiting till 1 March to start :(

got axxess uncapped express+ and 4mb line, sounds good in theory but with me it's not the case. Sites will sometimes show "page cannot be displayed" and if you download torrents (enough to take up all the banwith wich should be 4mb/s ) top speet was last night 102kB/s.
If you got to the microsoft website and are lucky enough to get the page open and download something the speed will be 4mb/s
maby stere is something wrong with my modem ,but if I switch over to my atlantic account all is well but then i have to pay per mB.

I haven't had any joy with those IS ADSL Uncapped express accounts - the rolling window and throttling was an absolute nightmare...

yeah well with the rolling period you must not use your threshold after 8 at night so if you always sit upbove the threshold you will always be limited speed wise..

Does that make any sense?

urm not really....

The threshold is for example 5gb in 10 days. why it would it matter if I download after 8pm ?

The rolling period is putting me off getting uncapped axxess...I want an uncapped line that doesnt limit me (isn't that the point of having uncapped?)

Jesus Christ! That's expensive!!!
Only for business, I guess.
How could a home user afford this? LOL

@igantius and other with uncapped express - what can you generally expect from speeds after 8pm on p2p and news servers? I have a 4mb line. I'm not to worried about the throttling - I'll use prepaid for normal surfing before 8pm if needed.

I'm also interested in trying it out from 1 March. If I understand correctly from Axxess' website you need to give 1 month notice to cancel the service?

I would also like to understand this, here's my take.

I think the rolling threshold applies from 8am to 8pm - if you go over you will be throttled to your package limit whether it be 384, 512 or 1024.
After hours 8pm-8am does not count towards the threshold + you get max speed depending whether you have 384, 512 or 4096 telkom line.

I am also seriously looking at this but don't quite understand how it works.

I'm more interested in the real life speeds generally obtained after 8pm.

@ignatius mentioned 102kB's, but I want to know if that is what you can expect most of the time or is it normally better/worse?
