The website clearly states that restriction is applied from 8am - 8pm.

I'm more interested in the real life speeds generally obtained after 8pm.

I had one of the uncapped accounts (IS but not from axxess), 384 on 384 line, speed at night is very decent on emule, getting average 38KB/s, one way to work around the day time is to setup ur modem to bridge then I had a old comp, i put two lan cards and have them both connected to the same modem, then change the registry so winxp load balanced and then on both cards dial the same connection, the system will cap speed on both to 192kbps but with two of them load balanced its like having 384kbps anyways.

after 8 u get your full line speed so it is worth it if you can afford it. you just order a 384 uncapped from them and a 4mb line from telkom and bobs your uncle you can download to your hearts content at night. can get speeds of up to 450k if you use the right applications
Yeah, I'm using an IS 384 Uncapped Express account and except for the throttling it's great.
Then again, I barely use it in the day when it's throttled since I'm not home. Last night I pulled about 390kb/s with a few torrents and xdcc transfers. With the torrents, it's pretty dependant on the people you connect to though and how your client is set up, with decent port forwarding, etc. Some torrents I easily get 300kb/s, some just seem to stay at about 40kb/s, even with a decent S:L ratio.
Also, a nice thing is that the ports for standard XDCC transfers doesn't seem to be as insanely shaped as on other accounts, had a transfer coming through at about 260kb/s last night with that being the actual bot's speed per transfer cap.
The times I have used it in the day, while throttled, have been pretty bad though to be honest. Most of the time you get heavy packet loss, which is why some sites don't always load/half load. That's been my experience anyway, I just use my Telkom account to browse when throttled.
One thing that's weird is some http downloads are severly shaped. I have no idea if it's selective and on purpose, or just a random coincidence, but when downloading from certain http sources, I get about 3-6kb/s per connection, whereas I get a full 420kb/s when downloading the same file from my Telkom account.
IMO, it's great if you are fine with getting a decent service and speeds in the off-peak hours, it's certainly the cheapest bang for your buck if you are a heavy data user. Downloading what you want and browsing without worrying about eating up your cap is really nice. If you want a decent service and speeds in peak hours, you would be better off for something else.

Torrents are up and down a bit, but most of the time if you have good seeds you ARE going to get around 400KB/sec
I can say also, that if you using Rapidshare, you are going to get full line speed. My line peaks in the 500KB/sec's so this account is sweet...
Dont doubt, its a really good deal.
oh... and in terms of some kind of secret cap in the t's & c's there isnt one. I've stopped counting the GB's that I have downloaded... all I will say is that Im pulling around 10GB an evening.
Now Im running out of things to download...

I am also an Express+ user, on 4mbps.
As stoke said, what you see on the site is what they mean.
8am-8pm weekdays = stated speed 384/512/1024 depending on your chosen package as purchased from Axxess.
You get your FULL Telkom rated ADSL line speed, any other time.
As for real world speeds:
I'm getting the expected 4mbps speeds after 8PM, 350-450kbytes/s when running a torrent full load, FlashGet multithread download, etc. Obviously you need a decent torrent or HTTP/FTP server.
Xbox Live gaming is also an absolute pleasure.
After hours international ping is @ 200-300ms, which is pretty standard for any ADSL, whether the over-hyped SAIX or the over-lamented IS.
Even better is that the Axxess guys tend to "forget" to throttle me during daytime, so I am getting full line speed during some days as well.
Please note, that if you need fast internet during daytime, a prepaid account will serve you well until 8PM...

btw, its not axxess that does the throttling its IS....

Just a bit expensive still...all in it for a 4mbit line it will cost you around R1700 incl an unlimited news account. Not a lot of people have that money in these times.
I've recently returned from the UK so I'm struggling to adjust to life back in the internet "dark ages" coming from an uncapped 24mbps line.
This service seems like the best option if you are a heavy downloader but what is the performance like when streaming video?
I used to stream movies from bbc iplayer, hulu etc. So (aside from having to use a vpn to get around the IP checks) would I be able to stream from these sites without excessive buffering using Uncapped Express+ at during off-peak hours?
