Clarkson called racist over dog name

In the 19th century it was rather common to name a particularly stubborn horse after prominent politicians who were not liked by a particular community. This has some rather interesting implications if a horse becomes famous.

Dick King rode the horse Somerset (amongst others)
The governor of the Cape Colony some years earlier was Somerset

I don't think it's racism and don't know why Clarkson did it. But if your ex named her dog after you it may be meant to offend you. So it's about context.
 
it is rude to call your dog after people thats what I mean not that it is racism but it is disrespecting the man

it is disrespectful because a dog is a animal and not a person people are clever than dogs and if you must say Im a dog then you mean Im dumb and i smell bad

I wouldn't see it as offensive but a compliment. Probably because I like animals more than people. So if I had to name my dog after my ex, it would actually be an insult to my dog...

She might be trying to imply you're a dog but of course if you have no problem being a dog then she'd be unintentionally complementing you.

Never mind the fact that it is NOT disrespectful. that is not even the issue. The issue was racism, of which there is no sign. Do you see racism here? If so, where?

Also, would I be a racist by default if I happen to have the surname Verwoerd?
