Class Action Against Vodacom

IC

I am kindof sick and tired. I had a guy running in here today asking when the Vodacom guys are coming back so he can shove the 3G card up their ......You get the picture.

I don't have time for this. It is making me tired. It is like they are saying:"You signed up for our crap....now just sit and take it". If it was not for my 24/7 schedule I would have personally started a legal case against them.

I get regular feedback emails. This this thing has crashed, that circuit suffered a power surge, and things like :
"I am pleased to advise you that we took corrective action with respect to 2 modules in the RNC at about 16h15 today, and based on K15 trace work the problem seems to have cleared.", but that still does not keep the connection stable.

So, IC, I don't want to SPAM, sue, hurt, spread slander...I just want the connection I am paying for.

To Vodacom:

Before I and others start building a legal case can we please work out something(compensation) in regards to:
1) No service
2) Bad service
3) Carry over

While your guys are running around I have bad connections. Your best efforts are not helping. I am still paying. At best I have 5 minutes to up- and download email before the friggen blue light starts flashing. I am not the only one. Come up with a plan, some suggestions, anything ... before more people join and rebel against this bad service.

As I was typing this the connection was dropped again. It will now take several reconnection attempts and Error619s (yesterday it crashed so bad I had to switch off and on). This is a pain.

So what I am asking for is compensation, not only to me but all the other people in the area. Many of them are not even aware of this forum.

To the people on this forum with the same problem:

PLEASE PM me. I think if at least 50 people respond (like a petition) then there is definite problem. If a lot less people respond then the problem lies with me and a few others in the area. Lets see where we are by Tuesday. Hopefully some miracle will have occured by then.

Dont voda publish a coverage map - A prerequisite for gaining a license I would hope!
no comment about this voda?? I remember when a company called 3 started in the UK. People bought the phones but found the same problem of bad coverage. The regulator slapped their wrists because they failed to provide the projected promised net coverage. A very expensive mistake.

Vodacom does publish a coverage map, normally very conservative.

The problem VMS and other are seeing in Centurion is not a coverage issue but rather a localised problem with the system serving the Pta area. The guys are working to resolve this issue and if not successful will roll back the systems.

I understand, and agree with, the frustration felt.

It's again the dilemma of expanding the network to cater for growth while maintaining service levels.

I just got a call from vodacom3g and was very much impressed with his professionalism and willingness to look into this problem and sort it out.

Vodacom seems to be taken this very seriously and I am sure that they will rectify it in due course. They are of course also loosing revenue when subscribers cannot make use of this service...

I think this thread proves that megabytes that magically go *poof* at the end of each month is a fscking stupid idea.

That is everyones first impression. However, my frustrations with that network are the many promises and little action. I would be interested to compare their open 'tickets' with the individual so-called resolutions.

Have requested the call desk performance stats for you.

Skeptik, as asked before; Please let me know what I can help with. I'm concerned about these 'many promises' someone is making to you. Let me know who is promising what and I'll follow up for you.

OT, I'm still waiting for the info from you on Vodacom being a 'major spammer'. I've taken it up with the executive and they're keen to see this large number of spams you've received. Won't you post or PM them please?

VMS and other forumites in the Pretoria area:

Just had a call from engineering who found a possible cause for the disconnects.

Can you guys please give some feedback on the current status?

3G SUCK!!, Well whats the point of a service if it does not work?

1. Click a link it hangs no data comes back then I have to disconnect and connect again.

2. Get disconnected by the server so many times a day lost count.

3. Funny thing is I can see the 3G base station from where I am sitting and it is only about 300m away.

4. Only get 4 bars signal with the external antenna. 2 bars with no antenna.

5.Get the 619 error very often

6. well I hate 3G wish I had never taken the contract out with Vodakuk!

7.Cell C's EDGE in my area is faster and more stable. So thank god I am on a cell c contract they even have better service when you have a complaint. Cell C actually sorts it out unlike vodacom who I have phone about 5 times in 1 month and still nothing.

8.I can see Telkoms influence in vodacom seeing as they own 50% of vodacom what would you expect?

9.Just a question if we all have so many problems with the 3G service will vodacoms network be able to handle HSDPA?

I have given up on 3G for today. GPRS is much more stable. I will check in again tomorrow.

Just out of interest. We had my son's 5 birthday party today. A prominent VoIP supplier was also there. The conversation swung to internet SPs and Vodacom was crapped on. Everybody's opinion was that 3G does not work (I kept quiet actually) and that MTN GPRS and EGDE was the best mobile solution. The VoIP guy's opinion was that 3G was too dodgy to recommend to his clients. He is now boosting EDGE as a last resort alternative to ADSL. Vodacom scored really low and I didn't even add my 2 cents (too busy fiddling with my new camera)

3G still dead

V3G

Some feedback

Midstream Estates:

Yesterday I had GPRS running at a constant 9.8kbyte/s for hours(quite impressive for GPRS). 3G,however, would connect for a few minutes and then die. After a few attempts the card would flash all the LEDs and crash the Dash. Not funny. So GPRS it was for the day.

Kentron, Irene: Today:2006/02/06

3G does not even want to connect. Dash crashes and several Error619s. Also not funny. So I am on GPRS. Been stable for the last 5 minutes, but I cannot use it here as it interferes with some of the PCs next door.

Basically 3G is now at an all time low. From intermittend to bugger-all.

Any word from Vodacom if they will compensate us for bad service?

VMS

hhhmm doubt that they wud compensate. I think their opinion wud be that you can use GPRS ( not that that is what we want especially with all their advertising)

Just got a call from Vodacom. They see I am unhappy and are willing to cancel my contract.

But that is not what I want. I want what I had 2 weeks ago....a working 3G connection. Told the friendly lady that there are many others like me and I am also speaking for them.

She will call me in 2 weeks to see how I feel (or I can call her at any time to cancel my contract).

I am now seriously thinking about their offer.

VMS

easy out for them.....they just want to make you go away...

A few relevant points before this thread goes completely OT :)

1) VMS does not actually want to cancel. All he wants, like everyone else in the area, is a stable connection.
2) No one wants VMS 'to go away'. VMS is (as are all subscribers) considered to be a model subscriber and have helped a lot to pinpoint the problems, feeding valuable information directly into the engineering teams.
3) A huge amount of effort has been going into this problem. It's a localised problem and is doing a great job to avoid being isolated and identified. A large number of Vodacom engineering staff actually lives in the same area so everyone is acutely aware of the problem and has been working around the clock to catch it.

As a matter of fact, feedback on stability would be appreciated as some changes were made last night.

ok then , but then they need to supply the same service with regards to other areas as well then.

Which is not really always the case.

I just hope that the SNO with brings good service and price competition.

GPRS was stable to today. The other user in the building got a 3 minute avg disconnect on 3G.

The regional (3G) manager, from Vodacom, is coming to see me 9am tomorrow personally. He also wants this sorted out. He also sounds like a real gentleman.

The fact that I am loud about this does not mean that I am the only pain in the butt. There are others and I am speaking for them as well. I am not going away, cancel my contract (how attractive that might seem at the moment) or shutting up.

There are people that support my idea to take Vodacom to court, but let the nice people first sort out the problems.

Till then I am plottering along on GPRS.
