Seeing some comments on threads a Dedicated Classic Movie Thread Might be useful.
Let me start:
Must see is Casablanca 1942
The Hitchcock Collection.
The Invisible Man.

More Suggestions welcome

I'd like to pitch the classic slapstick comedies:

Naked Gun series
Hot Shots
Top Secret
Airplane
National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon

They just don't make em like these anymore (and the Scary Movie franchise just doesn't count  )

You forgot National Lampoon's Vacation

I also mentioned these two in the other thread:

The French Connection (1971)
Exorcist (1973).

Both by the same director (William Friedkin). He hit a purple patch here making these back-to-back.

The first thing you usually hear about The French Connection is something like "isn't that the film with one of the greatest car chase sequences in movie history?". Of course, it's so much more than that. Smart, action-thriller. High class performances by Hackman and Scheider.

The Exorcist would be considered a very slow burner by modern standards, though still very much with the capacity to give you the chills. Memorable, intense and incredibly foreboding atmosphere. Excellent cast here as well.

^^Building on that. The Amityville Horror 1979, original not re-make & The Shining 1980

Another Great Classic:
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

Great Film

Charlie Chaplins movies are now available in hd.

It's astonishing that after all these years, they still retain interest in terms of story and content.

This movie changed my life forever

Decided to give Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind a shot.

One hour in and I can't continue. Is there some sort of payoff in the end because this movie is awful? - so far.
