I was just thinking I sell plenty of goods and generally I use MyBB, Facebook or a few sites I'm comfortable with. I avoid Gumtree, OLX and others because I know 9 of 10 are scammers.

I was wondering if you think there's a way for a site to seriously reduce scams and cons? I'm pretty sure if they could, they'd be quite successful.

Maybe a combination of payment or subscription ... Registration ... Verification via mobile or mail ... Linked to an ID number.

Any other way?

i think the only real successful way, legally, politically correct and morally, is whichever site you are advertising on need to offer an escrow service, or you have to find an escrow service yourself to use.. anyone wanting to scam you will immediately think twice, no matter which party is selling or buying..

a payment or subscription will just drive away 90% of people looking to sell stuff.. from the buyer side, who wants to pay in order to look at stuff they maybe want to buy, especially if they may not find what they are looking for..

registration, verification linked to id and cell numbers are all too easy to get past.. this is not going to deter any scammers..
