Howzit guys

I have a 2014 MacBook Pro retina.

My internal ssd harddrive is currently running out of space and I'm not 100% what it is taking all the storage. I backed up all my most important docs and stuff onto an external hard drive, so my laptop is ready to be "formatted".

What would be the easiest way of doing this? I tried the CMD+R at startup thing, and selected Reinstall OSX.... but..... It showed 23 hours remaining - so this is not an option. I need my laptop for work.

Any other ways how I can wipe my Mac so I the operating system would be clean as if I just bought it. There's a feature like this on iPhones.

Thanks in Advance!

Your best bet would be to run the Internet recovery if u want to reinstall the OS. It will take a long time as the file it downloads if roughly around 8GB. Otherwise just create a new admin user and login with that user and delete the other user. All the documents in the previous user library will be deleted however anything stored in the system library will still be saved.

If you want to do a clean install download the installer from the app store. Then use an app like DiskMaker X to create an installer on a USB. This way you will have an installer file on hand if you want to repeat the process again in the future.

Before doing anything rash. Deactivate your time machine local save by running tmutil disablelocal in terminal. Also. Use Onyx to clean out your caches. I removed 30GB out of the cache a while back.

If you're close to an iStore, the guys there will copy the install file on a USB drive for you if you prefer.

That is probably the easiest way, but that streams the installation from the internet. The best way would be to get the ISO, put it on a USB drive and then point the installation there.

Best would be to go get the iso from your friendly Apple store, just take a big enough flashdrive. Once you have it then a clean install is quick and easy.
