Admittedly, I am a little OCD when it comes to clean cutlery, crockery etc.
By default, the temperature on my dishwasher is set to "Inferno".

A cheese grater always seems to be the most difficult to sanitize.

Help !

Throw it away & buy a new one. Same for sieves.

I barely use mine due to that exact same reason.

I'd just use dishwashing soap and a brush. Cheese is fatty by nature so it won't come off nicely without some actual friction...dishwasher won't work imo. Maybe try scrubbing the worst off & then dishwasher?

What type of cheese are you using ? I never have any issue whatsoever cleaning my grater. Just place it in warm water and leave it there for a few minutes then start scrubbing*Time to get your hands dirty for a change*.

Problem is, it's a rather nice solid stainless steel job - cant keep tossing them out.
I also tried using the grater blade on the food processor to do a whole block at a time - problem is the grated cheese dries too quickly

Run it under the hot tap immediately after using it. I just rub my fingers across the face of the grater to get most of the stuff off. Cheese dries solid, so you need to get it off fast. Same as pronutro lol.

Also, buy a grater with a removeable rubber base. The plastic ones always get rammed full of bacteria eventually.

.

Let us not go there I had to use boiling water in order to get it loosen, what a mission to clean pronutro once it is dried up.

I have an old greater for 19** voetsak but it does its job. Unlike other greater's I have used at several timeshare units, they cheap quality and I get irritated with them. So always bring my own from home even the pots are the worst!

I have found running hot water causes the cheese on the grater to melt & spread even more (ok, maybe i have the hot water set on "Inferno" as well).
Oddly, if the grater is left alone for about an hour, the cheese on it gets hard - give the grater a good smack & lots of the cheese goes flying. Then attack with a brush & 80% is gone as well.
It's that final 20% that simply refuses to f**k off !!

Yea, it is one of those with the removable rubber base.

Just soak it if the cheese has dried then wash it with one of those scouring sponges - it's not exactly complicated, is it?

I find a scouring brush works best as it gets in everywhere.

OP if you are that paranoid.... Soak it in a little jik before scrubbing.

Must admit I have never found a cheese grater difficult to wash

Yeah, a long handled scouring brush also works well if you're cleaning the inside of one of those stupid pyramid shape graters. I really don't get why people have any trouble cleaning a grater though.

Wash it straight after you use it.

Help? You need to man the ef up. :D

Dishwasher does mine fine on eco wash which allows more soaking time at lower temps.

Dishwasher works fine.

By hand I just use a pot scourer and run it upwards rather than downwards.
This is random mundane ****.

Do you battle to clean your ass in the morning?

Side to side works well too. :)

My dishwasher works perfect but its always on the long wash with the temp on disinfect mode.
