So my friends were kind enough to leave their grubby finger prints all over my LCD screen :/ I've put off cleaning it as this is something I can never do right.

So what is the best way to clean a lcd screen? I normally just take a damp cloth, wipe it over and then dry it off. However I am always left with streak marks all over the screen which look terrible :(

Anyone here have a full proof way to get the screen to look as though I just took it out of its box?

Use either 100% Alchohol, Methelated Spirits or Windowlean (Depends on the screen - Glossy I'd use Windowlean) with a paper towel - What I find works best is if you clean it first then once all the marks are gone just breath out from your mouth on the screen (like how you clean spectacles) and wipe that area of the screen softly to remove any streak marks slowly covering the whole screen or buy some kind of kit.

Doesn't that leave a residue? Alcohol would surely damage the LCD film? What about a highly diluted mix of liquid soap and water? I clean mine this way and no streaks.

Use a dry microfiber smooth cloth. Works great:)

Just buy a LCD cleaning kit. They're not to expensive - you should be able to find one for less than R100 easily. Works great.

Edit: These kits usually include something to wipe the dust of, a liquid to spray onto the screen and a microfiber cloth to wipe the liquid of.

I do what you do . . . but without the streaking.

Use one of those clothes you get from glasses, dipped in a 50/50 mix of white vinegar to water. I always use that on my Samsung SyncMaster 940bf. Works beautifully.

I saw this thread and sure that everyone seems to have the same issue , we got some really excellent cleaning kits from Manhattan that will solve all this issues ,
I personally used one myself and it really works wonders on my Desktop LCD screen at the office and my BenQ Notebook screen.

Note that many cleaning products include chemicals which may harm your LCD. If you have a matte screen, you need to take extra care not to press too hard either. I recommend a microfibre cloth (available in supermarkets), with warm water mixed 50/50 with white vinegar. Then dry the screen with a second microfibre cloth.

Or buy a dedicated LCD cleaning kit as mentioned

The cleaning agent in LCD solutions is isopropyl alcohol. I bought a 500ml bottle from a pharmacy for R40 and a 750ml bottle of distilled water at a hardware store. Mix 50/50 in a spray bottle and enjoy with ice ;0) BTW, it's nonsense that alcohol will damage your LCD, been using this solution on my LCDs for 2 years and they look like new.

+3 to lcd cleaning kit . i used one little handkerchief out of the bottle about 3 weeks ago and theres still no dust. that's some awesome stuff in that tub

I was just given a Dicota Brilliant Gel II screen cleaning kit as a freebie (so I don't know the cost or availability) and it's great - no streaking at all on matte or shiny, looks like new.

I just use a rolled up soft cotton sock which I dampened with hot water which I drag accross the screen. Immediately afterwards I do the same with a dry sock which prevents streaking.
