I remember there was a thread about this some time ago, but my search did not find anything, so forgive me..

What do you use to clean your LCD monitors? My Samsung Syncmaster 940BF is filthy & im not sure what to clean it with, i have heard that many traditional screen cleaners can actually damage the thin film on the LCD causing a blurred image:eek:

I have googled it & found a few sites recommend a solution of 50% distilled water and 50% isopropyl (rubbing alcohol)

What do you people use?

thnx:)

Windowlene and no, that is terribly bad for LCD screens.

You can get stuff from Incredible Connection. Probably best would be a damp cloth with a mild soapy solution on it. Obviously not too wet then the same but just water to remove the residue.

A damp, lint free cloth has always served me well.

why is windowlene bad for your lcd? i would like to know because ive used every week since getting my hanns g

all you need is something evaporates

The best thing to use if you want a lint free cloth is to use the piece of cloth you get with your glasses (if you've ever bought glasses) to clean them with. Apparently it works well?

As far as I know it affects the external plastic coating.

I noticed on a friends that the screen went quite dull and I could see it looked like the face of the screen was almost smudged.

Also, don't put liquid directly on the screen. Put it on the cloth first and then wipe screen. Cloth must not be dripping wet either.

This should be done for TV, normal crt etc.

1 x Microfibre cloth R9.99 at checkers
Water out your tap

Wipe off dust then get half the cloth damp wipe off finger marks coffee and cooldrink spills. Dry with other half.

Been cleaning my laptops and LCD's like that for a long time

I would stay away from Alcohol if I were you, I've heard countless people say that it's damaged their screens, the fact that it is corrosive to many plastics/rubbers,etc. is enough for me to keep it FAR away from my screen. Saw one screen online where the guy's entire screen went foggy, and another guy said his panel cracked, don't know how reliable that info is but I've seen it cracking water cooling heads and damage car engines ;)

Nothing wrong with good old water, just apply to the microfibre cloth as others suggested and clean with that.
