Cleaning kitchen utensils

I have wooden chopping boards, so I bleach and scrub them after use, then dry it immediately so the wood doesn't split. If it did split open, I would cry and throw it away.

In fact I pretty much bleach everything, including my sink and counter tops. I don't even use the branded kitchen cleaners any more. I just keep a spray bottle of bleach water under the sink.

Follow-up....anyone know if bleach + sunlight is a safe combo?

yes, a few drops of bleach mixed with the detergent, mixed with water in a bottle can be used to clean most surfaces.

You can even soak tea stained teaspoon in bleach(5-10min will do), and it will remove the stains, returning the spoons to their former shiny state.

Bleach is fine, but can be toxic to pets, so use carefully. To prevent wood splitting, you can oil the boards from time to time with ordinary vegetable oil.
Lemon juice or vinegar work well to disinfect and degrease kitchen countertops. You can bleach your cutlery in a bleach and dishwashing liquid solution, then rinse in water with some white vinegar added: a brilliant shine which works very well on wine glasses and other glassware too.

It goes in the dishwasher, along with all the other bacteria-infested stuff.

Yes, there's always that. But sometimes fancy glassware or wooden ware don't do too well in the dishwasher.

None of my glassware is what you would call fancy, and I wash wooden things in the dishwasher too - spoons and chopping boards. Does it harm them? They soak up a bit of water, but none have split so far.

My plastic chopping board that I use for chopping most things, including meat and veggies, does really well in the dishwasher. Gets it much cleaner than I ever could.

Are you not confusing the dishwasher with an autoclave?

at 70'c with all the chemicals not much will survive and thanks to all that rinsing the rest goes down the drain.

Recently I've gotten lazy so I just leave my empty plate for the dog to lick up. He does a good enough job and saves me a lot of time washing dishes.

Thats why I ask...last time I posted a cleaning topic I was told that bleach + any acid is bad news (creates dangerous gases). Didn't know that till then...hence me asking about sunlight.

Also dishwasher. Not much can survive a dishwasher.
Only if you max the temp. Most need to be on full blast (70+) to ensure that the wicked stuff is nuked.
