I am really fed up and I have literally tried everything. It seems the previous residents of this house never cleaned the shower door glass as a result it has a layer of something build up on it.
At my previous house, I used vinegar and then salt to rub off that scum and used to work perfectly. But this glass doesnt seem to budge.
So far I have tried, vinegar, hot vinegar, lemon, toothpaste, normal glass cleaner, domestos, spirit of salts(hydrochloric acid), drain cleaner (sulphuric acid), grout clean (which is muriatic acid / hydrochloric acid).
I even got some water-sandpaper but that was scratching the glass so kept that aside.
Any suggestions?
As a final resort, I am thinking of buffing the glass but I just can't find anything appropriate. I have a drill and a grinder which I can use with the right attachments for polishing.
This is driving me mad, please help. I just dont have the money to replace the shower door, which I think might cost me 2500, including fitting.

Maybe a picture would help?

If it’s really that bad, maybe oven cleaner is the answer.

But to me it sounds like the top coating of glass is already damaged and there’s no simply cleaning that away.

Sounds like a hard water stain on glass which is alkaline - it probably has a few years of calcium deposits, you need an acidic solution to remove it. Just use vinegar with some sunlight liquid mixed, put it in a spray bottle and coat the glass so it's covered in the foam mixture. Leave for 24hrs, reapply mixture if needed, then wash off with water. Scrubbing with a vinegar and baking soda paste can also help.

I definitely know what you're going through haha!

I've normally used the same solutions for the shower doors I've maintained from scratch personally to great success but I couldn't for the life of me remove it from the new home's ~10 year old doors that were never cleaned for some awful reason.

I eventually determined that the deposit and stain build up was inside and between the glass after so long, which is why no premade and mixed solutions + steaming could do the job, so I unfortunately had to bite the bullet and replace the doors. So much wasted time and effort lol :(
